Ideas for wasted garden space please!
Comments (12)The aspect is very important for a thin section of a garden. Like Pat Oliver I too would ask whether or not you use the gravel section for parking a car and agree that you also need to think about how it joins the rest of the garden. I understand that you get the sun in this area late afternoon/early evening and is a "sun trap". If you want to add some shelter you could add a pergola along a section of the site and grow some evergreen climbers, scented roses, jasmine and clematis. You could then add some seating or a dining set under the pergola for a late night meal with friends. If you plan to keep the paving slabs then think about furniture and pots that are of a similar tone to tie the area together and then use some white ones as accents to tie the area again to the house. If you remove the slabs then a gravel garden is a great idea, but you could also use composite decking boards and raise the area so that you come out of the door at the same level, and then have some steps down to the rest of the garden. Also think about setting the garden at an angle across the site, as this helps from a design point of view and results in you getting more items in to the area. Draw the area on to a piece of paper and have fun with shapes. If it is such a sun trap think about sun loving plants that are suited to arid conditions, that is why a gravel garden is such a good idea. I hope this helps. If you have any questions please get in touch. All the best and enjoy your garden. Mark...See MoreHelp! Small one bed with design accent?
Comments (3)Hi. It looks a great flat. I'd keep paint light and neutral and use colour for accessories. The aurora sofa would be my choice, light in colour and with slim arms. Made.com do a couple of plug in wall lights you may like to go over the sofa. Perhaps consider a large potted plant between the sofa and FF. I can't really see/read the measurements but would a slim storage ottoman work as a cofffee table? Preferably one on legs. Use a rug to zone the seating area but I would keep the colour/tone close to the floor so the rug doesn't make the room feel smaller. I'd go for a bench set for the dining table, something like this where the benches tuck fully under. If you wanted chairs one side then go for clear, acrylic ones such as ghost. Add a sheepskin or cushions to the bench and I'd add a large mirror over the table. You can use a floor lamp with a slim base, maybe something like an arc lamp, to zone the dining area. I'd just go for one bedside table so as to access the wardrobe, maybe even consider a standard double bed. You can use paint or wallpaper to create a headboard and make the bed a focal point if you didn't want to buy a large headboard. Are you going for the mirrored pax? Can you include shelves and a pole over the WD for storage and coats? Perhaps look for a folding hoover so that and an ironing board can be attached to the wall either side of the cupboard (there may be room if the WD is to size?!) http://www.made.com/fjord-rectangle-dining-table-and-bench-set-oak...See MorePatio advice and ideas please
Comments (39)@rach1922 - you are quite right that people harvesting Indian sandstone were exploited, as well as the use of child labour. For this very reason many UK suppliers have installed their own staff in their own quarries to ensure this does not happen. So basically there are companies who have total control to ensure the Stone is ethically harvested, such as Marshall’s, London Stone etc. I used Global Stone who supply many builders merchants. Sadly, we as a society exploit many people in many countries so that we can enjoy cheap clothing etc. It’s a minefield....See MoreTime to start planning a garden design! Help and ideas please? ☺️
Comments (25)Oh my word! Dyson is adorable! so ickle!! Now I wanna find a Rune (his name - like rune stones.. not like Rooney 😂) sized box to put him in. Thanks for the 3rd design! I'm always impressed how you come up with such interesting designs (compared to my rectangle of grass with straight boarders I'd envisioned) I think we still prefer the 1st design in part because Chris want's to keep more of the grass. I'd be tempted though to put some sort of low fence to deter Rune from eating crops so maybe I could put some plants against it and growing up that to help disguise? I think the old paving slabs is the best way forward atm instead of the stones... I never truly appreciated how many stones there were just around the garden... just around on the grass.. close to the house and rubble left from the building work, random ones on the small remaining bit of patio that I think have been kicked in from the driveway... Ironically the pile of new ones all in one place are the easiest to keep him away from! (doing the driveway has also jumped up to a higher priority for the year! 🙈) Does Dyson like your Dyson? (assuming you have one) I managed to terrify him the other day when I tried to clear up some of the bits of grass we'd brought back in with us (despite having a treat at the time!)...See MoreFrida von Kirchbach
