This looks perfect for Roman blinds. You could go for almost any colour..... Teal and Aqua would look nice with brown and grey. Also pops of brighter citrus Colours for scatter cushions. And possibly an area rug, in front of the fireplace, including a bit of all the Colours you choose.

No curtains, and for me the only blinds should be roller. Why not go for something with a subtle shading - lavender? Then cushions in darker and lighter shades to tone.

Blinds can be much cheaper than curtains - look at web-blinds.com. The problem with curtains in a bay is they take up so much space when drawn back, for style they need to be lined, ending up with a bulky mass. When you add up the material, lining, heading plus poles, blinds are very competitive, and look better!

Vertical blinds are very inexpensive but that is because they are no longer fashionable (bit 80s office). I'd pay a bit more for roman blinds which you can then tie in to your colour scheme.

There are loads of colour ways that you can jump in with that would be complementary. You just need to have a bit of a play and decide how much drama you would like at your window. You talk about cost as being a factor, and for the size of the window, I think you would find that blinds and curtains depending on your choice can come out at a similar sort of cost.

Also as you have a lovely bay window, you may want to consider dressing the edges with 'decorative' curtains, that are styled, but never pulled. And then go for blinds for functionality.

However - I would also consider the heating in your house. As a general rule, curtains retain more heat than blinds.

Rachel Oakes ,.& Lucy , I'm sorry to disagree but vertical blinds are no longer seen as " 80's "office . You can find them in a huge range of colours , metallic s & textures . Along with shutters they are in fact quite popular , giving a minimalist clean look . I used to think they were boring until I saw what was in my local showroom . Cost also depends on whether you can buy ready made to fit your window , if not bespoke will be more expensive though there will be more choice .
