Design and visualisation

Hi, I would like to remodel and redecorate our main living room but also explore ideas of how to split the room up/remodel it and surrounding rooms. I am looking for some very simple virtual software to help me visualise different styles, layouts and decorating. Does anyone know of some really simple (preferably free) software, or how to do this on Houzz? Thanks

Hi,

I find roomstyler to be very useful in getting 3D visualisation of a room for free and it's very easy to use.

Can anyone recommend a decent design/visualisation tool - ideally for an iPad - which will allow me to play around with different furniture layouts/positions etc. It doesn't need to be too sophisticated, I simply want to visualise things.

Hello Kelly, I hear the same thing all the time. It's so hard to see how a space would look when you are looking at a plan view line drawing. I would definitely recommend looking into a free software that will bring it to 3D format - when it comes to visualising the layout and the items sizes within a space they can really help. It is great starting point. For getting the feel for the textures and colours that work in your space I create 3D images for my clients (and I offer a stand alone 3D packages). I have attached a few example images below. In my 3D package we can create your space in 3D - with your items. We then offer three variations so you can see different colours, different layouts or kitchens etc. What ever helps you to see your space and help you make those difficult decisions that are often taking large chunks of your budget :) ...so the bits that are important to get right. If you have 1900 high roofing trusses the 2200 ridge height is irrelevant because your ceiling will be the trusses.... in fact with insulation and board the ceiling will be a little lower. And the ceilings of the ground floor will be fixed to beams that are not strong enough to be an upstairs floor so likely your floor level will come up. And most of the space in your loft will have much less height than in the very centre. To put it into context if your downstairs rooms have standard doors they will be 1981mm high (plus architrave). This means there will be insufficient height at the top of your stairs (and I believe build regs says this has to be 2m). And finding a door to put on the bathroom will be a problem, but mostly you will only be able to stand up in the very middle of the room. People do convert their lofts to have this kind of space but find it doesn’t add resale value. There may also be building regs issues with the stairs rising from a space that is open to the kitchen. Have you built the house already? Can you change the design to have a higher roof?
