vanity is full cabinet on 3" legs. using your pic, the right hand side is a full floor to ceiling wall and the left hand side is a half wall next to a glass enclosed shower. the half wall height next to the shower is 40" tall thus that height reference. remodeler plan is to tile from floor up to the 40" mark and all the way around all 3 walls to provide decorative backdrop since the vanity isn't as wide or as tall as the alcove. what I am unclear on is whether it's standard practice to tile behind a full cabinet vanity or not? remodeler suggests tiling the entire alcove in the event we have to replace the vanity for any reason, that way we don't have to try and find/match tile for any different exposures. my second question is since the tile is a textured pencil tile and the vanity doesn't have a backsplash (simply flat surface marble top) - remodeler suggests tiling fulll alcove first and then mounting vanity to back wall and caulking the vanity to the textured tile. this approach would use the textured tile as the backsplash (6" of the tile will be showing above vanity).

That is exactly why I wouldn’t have them in a kitchen.......look great on a chimney breast.

So sorry I did not update this sooner. Strangely, I have turned into more of a shower than a bath person since the rain head went in the ceiling. After a solid month of use, we did have one leak behind the shower (just to the left of controls) which the water ran under the bath, through the radiator boxing that you cannot see on the right of the photos, and drenched the hallway. I cut a tile section out, husband fixed his leak, and I made a removable panel in the wall, but not so bad, you would only see it if you knew to look. I still have a little tiling to do around the radiator boxing, but it has kind of turned into a case of manyana now it is like this! It was proven that 3 women can get ready in here over Christmas, and now have a laundry basket behind the door. HOWEVER... I’m not sure it’s slate In those pictures, but, like you, I wanted a natural stone rustic finish for my fireplace, I used Indian Sandstone which comes in so many shades. The slabs are available from some garden centres and most builders merchants and are often used in the garden. They come in a rustic riven finish, or a smooth calibrated finish for a more modern look. Global Stone have loads and you can search their website for local stockists. There is an excellent supplier called The Rockery in Gamlingay, Beds, just off the A1 if that’s near you? This is mine
