Can I remove the built in wardrobe above the stairs?
Comments (6)I think you might need some expert input. Taking out a floor will involve cutting through floor joists so it will depend on which way they are running so as not to compromise other areas of the first floor. I’m not sure the overall look will work either. To my mind, it will accentuate an already narrow space possibly making it seem even narrower although I can appreciate the need for extra light. I’m not a professional & others may well disagree but this looks like it has the potential to be a lot of work for minimal improvement....See MoreUgly built in wardrobe
Comments (15)It's hard to say until you try to be honest. Its about drawing the eye. At the moment, they are very plain and that is drawing attention to the fact that they are maybe a bit dated. If statement handles draw the eye, then hopefully that will work. You could attach the lower ones and then see how it looks. I tend to do everything in increments, I'm a commitment phobe!...See MoreDated fitted wardrobes
Comments (9)Hi everyone, Thank you for all the advice and comments, I really appreciate it. Re: Bed, yes this was just our old bed that we have brought over and keen not to buy anything until the work starts. My biggest struggle is, yes I know it looks heavy with all the wardrobes but the storage space is much needed so it’s trying to keep the storage without overwhelming the space. I will try and get hold of a carpenter and get some advice/ideas. Thank you again....See MoreWhat to do with ugly built in wardrobe
Comments (13)Invest in an random orbital sander and a whole bunch of sandpaper. Like Katie suggested you could change handles. I would get some sturdier shelving as the ones there appear to already be bowing - 18mm MDF or plywood would work well. Rip out the ugly carpet and get some stick on vinyl tiles or wood planks. Cheap and easy and will last as you won’t be walking on them. Doors seam fine enough, maybe replace the hinges if you can’t salvage the old ones. Then you could match hinge and handle colour. I would paint the entire outside of the wardrobe in a dark colour to hide any imperfections. Paint the interiors in a pale neutral colour or maybe even paper the inner walls....See More- 9 years ago
