Painting fitted wardrobes?
Comments (62)Hello fhparis I painted my 1980's fitted dark brown wardrobes a year ago. I was able to remove a shelf which i used to practice on and to get an idea of the finish i could achieve. Or indeed if i could do it. Your wardrobes are lighter in colour which is a plus. I mentioned the products i used in an earlier post. Dont underestimate how long it will take to do. I think i applied 3 undercoats and at least 3 top coats. It was well worth the effort and cost a fraction of buying new wardrobes. The pics show 2 sets of painted wardrobes. Best of luck with your project...See MoreFitted wardrobes
Comments (3)Are the fitted wardrobes in the rented house? If so, don't do a thing without talking to your landlord first, he/she might do something about them for you, like put new doors on from Howdens, he might pay for the paint/painting or he might say he doesn't want to change them as they are serviceable and clean, whatever, the property isn't yours, so check first, otherwise you might not get your deposit back, beauty is in the eye of the beholder, tread carefully!...See MoreRedecorating bedroom with fitted wardrobes - help!

You are right not to use F&B, it's an inferior paint compared to dulux, and not correct for your purposes, being Eggshell finish. Dulux Trade Satinwood is far better, gives a better finish and is hardwearing. ( It's also more expensive than F&B i'm afraid, but you get what you pay for ). I'd paint the cupboards in a pale grey and replace the knobs. Give the area behind the bed a good dark grey finish, to help with making your choice of headboard really stand out. A quick rough paint idea using Dulux Night Jewels 2 and 6...See MoreFitted wardrobes
Comments (15)I think the problem is the shelves also date it. Hard to tell from the pic but they don't look that easy to remove. If the bridging unit isn't removed having single wardrobes may also look a little odd. If you're keen to keep it I have seen them updated by using a feature wallpaper behind the bed, will see if I can find pics. Having the unit painted in the wall colour will also help it blend...See Moreshelleyuk
