Front door colour confusion

Hi all,

I am struggling to decide on a colour for the front door of my first home. I was keen on a greyish green - something like F&B Blue Green or similar - but now I've got cold feet. As you can see from the photo, the brick is extremely red and I'm finding it tricky to think of colours that will be inkeeing with the Edwardian style of the property but still give it a 'lift' (the current black is both scruffy and a little boring for me). I am planning to smarten up the rest of the frontage with fresh white on the masonry, windows and door surround, and will be keeping the original pastel coloured glass in the tops of the windows (pink, blue, yellow and green).

Any door colour suggestions would be much appreciated. Thank you!

Grey is my favourite colour right now, however I thin your door need a bit more depth to it. A deep burgundy or blue would make it stand out. I would suggest hanging baskets either side of the door complimenting the door colour too. Leave the door frames white though to match the windows. Good luck with your choice, I'm sure you'll pick a fantastic colour and love it!

Hi Moores, I think sky is the limit given the white render, so maybe pick a bold colour you have used as an accent in the interior and really make a feature of the entrance?? I am one of those who ended up painting our front door the dark obvious choice, but I had a busy and quite a dark brick exterior to contend with, and I just couldn't imagine myself living with nothing too jazzy against it. I did try though ) Which way does your home faces? and can you attach a picture ? Is the door design of the 20's period? Sorry for many questions

I live in a similar era house. Are you not actually allowed to change the window colour or is it that you don't want them to stand out? I think that black windows would look better so the darker the better. For me the first thing that had to go on my house was the square browns guttering. We changed ours to black and our painted the woodwork underneath the guttering black and it dragged it forward by twenty years. I know this isn't the answer to your question but I thought I would mention it as I have a similar era house.

Here i am again :) I HAVE to make a decision on the door soon, as my decorator wants to get it done while he has some availability. Opening the front door this is what you're greeted with. The inside of the front door is India Yellow as I found it too dark in De Nimes. But I'm not sure its a bright enough yellow for the outer door? I've looked at a couple of yellows (F&B Sudbury or Babouche). A yellow would at least tie in with the inside. However I am still thinking of possibly Plum Custard (although it doesnt look as vibrant as i imagined in the AI pics above) or even Dulux Eastern Silks . F&B Cinder Rose is up there too. But I'm concerened these colours woud jar with the interior. Any thoughts welcome. Sorry I'm dragging this out...

Hi there, our house is similar to yours with a black door - pic below. We redecorated recently (after this pic) and the door was last. The undercoat was a lovely mid grey - when I saw it, I really regretted not switching to full grey but the sills, garage etc had already been done so it was a bit late. But next refresh we'll definitely consider grey (if it's not too dated by then!): it worked really well with our brickwork so should with yours too.

Your brick looks a similar colour to mine. I went for Platinum grey, RAL 7036. Photo below to help :)
