What colour should I have my front door?

I am going to be painting all the woodwork around the windows a very dark brown and the render and garage off white. I hate our front door and either want to change it or buy a new one. So confused as what would go and if we need to paint the small window attached. The more I think about colours the more confused I am getting - don't want to get so befuddled that I end up not doing anything at all!

I like sage green colours but not sure this would work.... Think off white to match render and garage may work but just so confused with it all .

Hi, I'd keep both the same colour and I don't mind the white; however the exterior has fairly warm hues with the porch door, tiles, brickwork and so the white is a contrast. If you are looking to paint the door, I'd go for Taupe-grey so there's a hint of brown present just to make the external door and internal door feel more cohesive.

What a great decision to have to make, I wish I lived on a colourful street. Lucky you. I like either the salmon pink of the first photo or the palest pink of the second photo. I’d stick to white for the door. Keep us updated with what you decide, I don’t think you can go wrong with most colours but I wouldn’t want to be the boring one in the row

We are not finished yet but had the same dilema as you. Also a similar shape (L shape around island). We fell in love with a wood herringbone floor but practically it was a bad idea in the kitchen area. We ended up tiling the L shape and (although kitchen isn't finished yet) we are VERY happy with the decision. We would have been paranoid as anything to get water on wood.

Hi Rachel, let me get this right, you want to paint your window frames brown? I hope you don’t mind me saying but it is a rather dated look. Unless I’ve misunderstood your post of course!

Yep, I hate it too, but we live in Mews of 6 houses and have to keep the same colour. Managing to go from a reddy brown to a dark brown black and render from cream to off white. Hoping will look a little more modern....

How strange, but we have a town nearby that has a Heritage Foundation that won’t let anyone change the front of their houses, even if they are modern! Ridiculous. Back to your front door, I like sage green which goes lovely with red brick, but any colour will look nice. You can have black, yellow, blue, purple........Here’s a few ideas

I think just the door in a nice colour so it stands out. You shall have a lovely coloured front door!

Can you post some pictures from further back if possible? It might be worth waiting until the windows and render are done before deciding.

I would be careful - in house hunting with my daughter we saw a house similar to yours and they had painted the front and garage door red, it completely ruined the look of the house. I’d take a walk around roads with similar house colouring and see what works, or go on google maps street view/Rightmove to look at photos.

Paint your windows and render before you decide. Definately spoil yourself and get a new front door...you won't believe the difference. I'll post some pics of some lovely ideas that will suit your house....

Just another thing to consider....If you have a composite door go for a neutral colour (will not put off future buyers) or if you want a coloured door go for a wooden one which can easily be re-painted.... :)

I live in a similar era house. Are you not actually allowed to change the window colour or is it that you don't want them to stand out? I think that black windows would look better so the darker the better. For me the first thing that had to go on my house was the square browns guttering. We changed ours to black and our painted the woodwork underneath the guttering black and it dragged it forward by twenty years. I know this isn't the answer to your question but I thought I would mention it as I have a similar era house.

Thanks colourhappy, The six houses had to make a decision together - the main downside of living in a gated community like this. Some wanted grey, some white and others stay the same. we decided on very dark brown, almost black so it ties in with the red and helps as we are not all changing colour at the same time. We will be changing guttering and downpipes too - hopefully same colour as woodwork....
