Comments (9)Hi, I think metallics are great for anything glamorous and also purples and other deep colours. For anything fashion inspired I usually go to classics, like Audrey Hepburn and other 1940's type styles. However if you were thinking something more with colour, framed fashion drawings like the ones Hayden Williams does would be a great way to tie in fashion and colour. Also for lighting I found this really cute bow-shaped lamp which might be perfect....See MoreGarden ideas please!
Comments (51)Hi there 81bec. I'm not sure if you've gotten started on the chances to your patch of garden, but if you haven't here are some tips, from someone who also loves low maintenance gardens that are drought proof but look gorgeous all year round..start buy getting rid of the camellia, what ever evergreen is hiding behind it and the red robin..leaving the one plant you actually seem to like, the Cordyline (good choice). Rake away all the gravel and lay down some good compost (after planting, layer over with mulch as it'll stop weeds and retain moisture, resulting in a lower maintenance garden). Next, put a piece of trellis against the side of the porch that currently has the camellia and evergreen and plant a Trachelospermum Jasminoides (Star Jasmine)-it's evergreen, a climber, low maintenance and has dark green leaves in summer with clusters of strongly fragrant white star-shaped flowers and rusty red leaves in winter, lovely. Next, plant a mix of Pennisetum Firework grass and Ox-eye daisies (sometimes called Marguerite) at the back near the wall. In the middle "row" plant a mix of Stipa Tenuissima (Mexican Feather Grass) and Echinacea (purple coneflower) and in the front, maybe either side of a wooden love seat, plant Chasmanthium Latifolium (Spangle grass). All are showstoppers year round, low maintenance, drought proof and do well in sun or semi-shade. The grasses all need the same kind of care once a year, as do the flowers, meaning you only have to do maintenance twice in a year as well as a little watering when it's really dry in exchange for year round interest and beauty that will perfectly compliment the Cordyline. Hope this was helpful. If you have any question on maintenance of any of those plants I'll be happy to help....See MoreHelp with Garden Design Please
Comments (5)Hi, I understand your frustration at your neighbours miss matching fence. Being the sunniest part of the garden it only accentuates the fault with a spot light. You could add some horizontal trellis to the upper part or if your budget can stretch do the whole fence. Painted soft wood can be a really economical solution and give a great effect.Your square patch of grass is only adding to the limitations of your garden. its drawing attention to the four corners and not creating an mystery. Having a curve to your grass will lead the eye away and create the illusion of more space.I would suggest building a curved seating area on your south side in the L shape by your shed. Railway sleepers positioned vertically with a chamfered top edge create a dramatic feature and are a really cost effect solution to screening. I would mask the end of your garden with these positioned across the whole width with an entrance to the right ( North side) The sleepers would then decrease in height as they curve round masking your shed and forming a built in seating area. They can also be stained adding to the dramatic effect. Black can look great if balanced well with bold planting. You are very fortunate to have a lovely hedge on your right, it could look fantastic. Good luck with your project!...See MoreHiding tile half cuts, please help, tiler coming in 2 days!
Comments (22)Thank you very much for your comments A.S,, Kazza, Casa Ceramica and Jonathan. Apologies for my delayed response! The tiler did indeed suggest putting another layer of aquadry backer board over the moisture resistant mdf so thank you for your concerns. Trouble is he then discovered the edge of the bath has a manufacturing fault so the whole project had to be put on hold until a engineer comes out to solve it. It is so frustrating! Still gives me a little longer to decide how to deal with the chrome strip I want to put down the side of the bath panel and the bath. The tiler said it would not show up very well with the current design where the frame is flush with the bath. If I build it out by 5cm with a sliver of tile, I can have the full effect of it but the downside is the spacing between bath and basin is quite narrow. Your thoughts as always are very welcome!!!! Thanks again...See More- 8 years ago
