Narrow sgl storey rear extn layout help needed
Comments (4)Narrow houses are always tricky, and long narrow spaces need particular care. I think that putting the kitchen centrally makes sense, but I think that the kitchen island is far too big, and dominates the whole space. It also cuts the space in half, creating a sense of 3 small spaces crammed together, rather than the open-plan room you might be aiming for. My suggestion would be to shorten the island by 600mm, push it against the wall as a simpler run of kitchen worktop, and have a smaller peninsula unit at the living room end with space for a couple of stools. I'd put storage under the stairs, and include the washing machine if possible to free up more of the kitchen. I think an integrated fireplace might take up too much space - what about a small wood-burner instead? https://www.modernstoves.co.uk/neo-multi-fuel-wood-burning-stove.html?gclid=EAIaIQobChMIiLCc09Hj3gIVCZ7VCh1BBweoEAkYFCABEgLOCPD_BwE# You could pop it into the corner of the room and have a smaller 'floating' wall cabinet for storage. https://www.theplasmacentre.com/tv-stands-and-av-racks/tv-stands/sel-wander-1800-oak.html?cpgn=201&utm_source=products-adds&utm_campaign=sel-wander-1800-oak&gclid=EAIaIQobChMIx7e1g9Lj3gIVmed3Ch0Arw72EAQYASABEgI_7_D_BwE Good luck!...See MoreLiving room design suggestions please
Comments (10)Hi, your ideas sound pretty much on point. On the alcove shelving I would remove all of them and add three shelves spaced out evenly and add nice doors to the bottom of the shelves - a builder or joiner could easily come up with some MDF doors for you. If you are looking to add depth I would suggest painting the alcoves in dark grey like Worsted from Farrow and Ball. Or you could paint the entire room in a lighter shade of grey. See the picture below for what I mean about the shelves and doors underneath. It will be a good idea to still keep some some shelves otherwise the walls could look a bit too bare. Your general layout seems fine, though I would draw out the sofa and chairs to scale on a floor plan just to be sure you will be able to fit everything in. For example it might be a better idea to have two armchairs side by side on one side of the fireplace and another sofa opposite, depending on the size. It really comes down to what you will be doing in the room, and who will be using it? If you have a lot of guests coming round I would add as much seating as possible but if the room is mainly to watch tv and relax you may prefer to less seating. If you can provide some dimensions I can draw up a plan with the seating to give you an idea. For your sofa and other bits of furniture Danetti is a good brand for Danish furniture. I'm not sure what are the dimensions of your sitting room but something like this L shaped sofa would give you that Skandi look. https://www.danetti.com/living-furniture/sofas/studio-3-seater-right-hand-fabric-sofa-with-chaise For the colour scheme and decor pieces keep them to a restricted neutral palette and add lots of texture using fluffy cushions and rugs as you mentioned. The key with Skandi look is to create a lot of layered lighting with lamps and candles, so you could add a lampshade on a side table with a floor lamp in the corner and even put some candles in your fireplace until you get the wood burner in. Hope this is useful for you :) Rukmini...See MoreDesign ideas for feature/TV/fireplace wall
Comments (4)Hello there! We at ALNBM Ltd recently completed a project that might resonate with your vision. For a client seeking a minimalist look, we designed a feature wall with an integrated pocket for the TV. To add to the clean aesthetic and meet your desire to hide the TV when not in use, you can incorporated a sliding down panel that seamlessly blends with the wall. Below, we installed a fireplace, which could easily be adapted to a wood burner or fireplace in your case. Considering your Japandi style preference, this solution offers simplicity and functionality, maintaining clean lines and an uncluttered feel. The sliding panel could be designed in a light wood color to match your flooring, creating a harmonious and balanced look. Integrated shelving could also be added, but kept minimal to align with your vision. The position of your sliding patio door and glass door leading to the snug room should work well with this concept, allowing for a cohesive flow within the space. See the attached photos below. Comments (2)Agree with Sarah. Another option might be to tile it with brick slips to even out the mishmash of brickwork that you have found. Any total rebuilds of this chimney surround are going to be very expensive. Log burner is your best option. At least now you can have a tall one they look much nicer as the fire is so much higher.
