Design Dilemma Kitchens Living Rooms

Interior decor help needed!

Hi we have just moved into our house that we have had a small extension done. We now have a kitchen/diner/living room. Everywhere is white for now I want to inject some colour and make it more homely but am not very good at designs. We have a grey shaker kitchen and a grey dining table so don't want anymore grey. I was thinking of a feature wall behind the sofa but not sure if that's the best thing to do. Maybe a dark colour wall with some artwork on? Any ideas would be greatly appreciated! Please excuse the mess we are moving in and there stuff everywhere :) thanks

Lovely room! What about a dark green/ kakhi wall behind the sofa?
It would really complement your beautiful kitchen!

How's the light in there? I went super dark in our last house in a dim, north facing room, to make it cosy and intimate. I loved that room! It was all about the wood floor and metallic accents to lift that wall colour. The equivalent room in our new house is to be a very dark green...

That's nice i was thinking sometjing like that but not sure if it will look odd in the room. It is quite light as it's South facing?

We have a very similar extension off our kitchen diner, we are still white and just change the rugs, throws and cushions depending on the season. Will be interested to see if you do paint it as I might then change my mind.

South facing - great! Does it get much light, and how brave are you colour-wise? If loads of light, no need to go dark to hide the fact that it's dim, so you can pretty much do anything. I love a cool blue in a south facing room: this is one of our south facing guest bedrooms. Looks great in bright light, and cosy in evening artificial light.

This colour is also lifted a lot by metallic accents and will complement your grey kitchen - especially if you change the cabinet knobs to polished brass and mirror this change with a lamp or picture frames in the same material over the blue. If you use warmer temperature lighting in it, it goes a soft sea green in the evenings, which is very mellow. It's Farrow & Ball Light Blue.

I think a large rug as in Mary's photo would really work with the grey kitchen, without going down the feature wall route.

Love the “caught in the act” expression of the dog:) This reminds me of a similar post https://www.houzz.co.uk/discussions/the-dark-side-dsvw-vd~4951574 I love the colour used (velvet evening by Crown). Also think a rug would be good so baby has somewhere soft to play on and some storage for the shoes, coats and bits and bobs.
