Pendants over an island are fantastic for mood and task lighting - as long as you maintain your extract system regularly they should clear most of the steam/moisture but you will occasionally need to clean the lighting so ensure it is easily removable etc. Be careful with glass over the food area just in case of an accident. Hi Sana We have created bespoke lighting solutions for people in the past. Yours is a tricky set up and depends where the power source comes from but perhaps a bar suspended across the lantern with pendants hanging from it is an option. Our recommendation would be to have three identical pendant lights that are suspended at different heights above the stairs which will create the illusion of a more spacious staircase. If you are wary about the height of the first light, we would suggest one of our decorative cable lights which has a height range between 13-100cm approximately (not including the bulb measurement) which leaves you with plenty of room to work with.
