External porch help

This is my fugly 15 year old house. We are planning a lot of internal changes for later this year and while we're on we'd like to have some kind of external porch put on. Trouble is we're so close to the cul-de-sac road and have such a tiny front garden, so it can't come out too far.
The garage is going to become a small single on the opposite side of the front door, and the garage will be converted and have 2 windows to match the bedroom above. The front will all be block paved or that new resin stuff laid when we're all done.
The front door is currently inset (not sure of the right wording) and some people with the same style house have just put another front door flush with the front brick work, that doesn't look good, so I'm thinking we need to come out a little bit. We seem to be in a wind tunnel, my Hoover is never away as bits blow in as soon as you open the door and as it's a good size hall I'm fed up having to hoover it umpteen times a day!
So, would an external porch look daft? If not, any ideas of styles oh brilliant houzers?

We have a pale blue liner - it looks great at night with the lights on and its easy to spot any dirt too. Depending on where you live - Spain or other locations, you might need to check with your local council to confirm if there are any issues with different coloured liners. Comments (2)From a plasterers point of view, if you do decide on changing the windows just be aware that if the render is damaged when the windows are removed it can be very tricky to match the dash. Comments (4)it looks like the porch was enclosed with the door after the original build. looking at the cracks it probably is the case that the new wall was built to provide the new door and window entrance area. the new wall was probably built without a foundation or with a shallow foundation. the plants that are close to the porch may be causing some localised shrinkage in the soil. the result may be that the new wall is settling differentially. if the cracking is wider at the top than the bottom then it is settlement, if it is wider at the bottom then it is heave. In addition to the above the wall looks as though it was built without a brick starter being fixed to the main wall. you should dig a hole next to the wall to find the bottom of the foundation for the wall. if it is shallow you could get it underpinned locally, but you might prefer to have it removed and rebuilt, which is probably going to be the same cost or cheaper than the work to underpin the area. hope this helps!! I really love the dark grey colours you’ve suggested and eventually would like to get the driveway sorted as quite cracked. I hadn’t considered Sage Green! that will def bring out and be a contrast to the red brick. The blocks under the window are definitely a 70s feature as a number of bungalows round the corner have exactly the same.. we are guessing it must have been a style as I agree, I originally thought it was because a bigger window was later put in.. - 8 years agoThanks Jen, the current garage isn't set back, it's all just straight across the front, there's like a half brick lip which maybe making it look set back. This is a picture of switching the garage door to the other side, minus a porch or canopy or anything. The garage door was specified after this image was done and the builders said we can have a smaller single door. It's still classed as a single (we only need it for a bike storage and a motor bike).

It's going to look great how exciting. I still personally wouldn't have a porch (although I love them for practicality!) but would go for an attractive garage door like this, and keep a dyson cordless in the hall!
I don't think your house is ugly at all btw and please do share your after photos:)
