Need Help with back garden design
Comments (7)I would get rid of the lawn and replace it with decking and lots of borders: look at this site, a similar but larger garden to see the reason why that can work: http://www.lucywillcoxgardendesign.com/Projects/Pages/Highgate_-_Love_Your_Garden.html I would add a shed/summer house combo to maximise outdoor space or at least one with a porch (sometimes sold as lumber/timber drying areas) as that can double up space for kids toys and storage....See MoreDesigning decking with shed in back garden Help Needed!
Comments (2)I think I’d advise against decking too, at least in the area close to the house as it would need to below the level of the damp course which would involve taking up the paving and a lot of ground works anyway. Decking needs to be raised so there’s no contact with ground but by doing so can create other problems such as make a great nesting site for rats and other rodents, not to mention slipperyness and more maintenance. Not saying it can’t be done and being a party pooper🙂, you could have steel frame and composite decking, just think it will be more work than you’re envisioning. With regards drainage and moss I’m guessing its north facing and doesn’t get much sun? Does water pool or puddle on the paving? Perhaps a drainage channel (see example pic) next to house may work more effectively but in a small area I don’t think it‘d be necessary. Certainly check the gutters for moss but i wouldn’t worry too much about the roof unless it’s really bad. On our house the birds tend to flick moss off the roof and gutters in search of food. You can get porcelain paving that looks like wood, maybe this could be an alternative. Personally I would get some advice from a few local landscapers to see what is possible and look at drainage....See MoreNeed a Garden Designer and Landscape Gardener for a garden re-design
Comments (9)Hi Ellie, ok I will edit it more as it should read we want all the shrubs and trees removed which is a tall feat when your not qualified I would guess. Also with the council not available to remove garden waste, we already have a lot piling up with the compost awaiting the date for when we can remove it. Our garden already has fence all the way around, however it needs updating as it has broken it a lot of places....See MoreOdd shaped double triangular garden - Need Help with design
Comments (14)A few things strike me. Firstly cutting that grass with a lawn mower not a strimmer should be a lot quicker. My front and back lawn must be about is at least 150 square meters and my teenager can do the lot in less than half an afternoon. Anyway, if you really hate doing it, that’s probably a pointless comment 😂. However, £7000 could probably buy a lot of hired lawn mowing service or a robotic mower as someone mentioned. Secondly, I know Sonia’s garden looks lovely and you probably think you couldn’t do it but I bet you could. Keeping things alive in planters is much more difficult as they will dry out more quickly, run out of nutrients and constantly need refreshing. If you gave yourself quite a deep border into the point of your garden (where you currently have a tree in the diagram) you could plant some decent size shrubs too that would probably only need an annual trim. I would also consider growing something up the fence to soften it a bit. Maybe your bottom right green circle could have a water feature in it? Or something to give a bit of height like an obelisk to grow climbers up. I wish I knew how to add photos from Houzz for inspiration. Otherwise, I think your mock up looks lovely and your seating area within easy reach of the kitchen will be great. Just out of interest, where do you get the sun most?...See MoreARC Bespoke Interiors
