Comments (12)This is, unfortunately, perfect timing as I became aware of a serious moth issue in my bedroom. Have bought all the sprays, stickers, cedar balls, clothes hanger repellents etc but it doesn't alter the fact that hundreds of £££'s worth of my cashmere and wool clothes are gone! A dear friend has been helping with the washing and freezing of my 'stuff' but we still have a way to go. She took one cashmere dress out and pointed to 2 larvae having a stroll along the shoulder seam, so I quickly despatched them to moth heaven!!! About to tackle the bed and underneath it etc. I, too, am now paranoid about the little snickers, and know that only repeated spraying and time will tell if I've beaten them. It's not nice!!! Comments (3)I'd definitely go for installing a simpler Edwardian reclaimed fireplace. You can find those on ebay or in reclamation yards.. but avoid one with lots of fussy detail. I'd then sand it and paint it a dull pewter (or sand) colour personally. See Marston and Langinger paints - they're lovely. OR use a duller silver paint spray (found in Car accessory shops) as you obviously like the chromed mirror.. which might go on another wall to balance out. I added an Edwardian fireplace to my blocked up chimney breast (so much healthier for the chimney too) and I simply couldn't believe the difference it made to the vibe of the room. It almost said 'OH! Thank you!' to me!!!!!!!!!!!!!! and immediately felt authentic again. Tip! If you can't find one that has a lower ash tray bit, just slot in a piece of ply (as your carpet is beige) under the grate to provide a sense of floor continuity. Comments (109)Hi ED, Thanks! Yep the eye of faith is crucial with winter garden makeovers! It'll be loads more plant dominated in a year or two. There's already a pump in the pond, which works as a standalone fountain, but can be adapted to power a cascade on the wall behind. Comments (13)What an awful thing to happen. You must have been left traumatised. The job was a relatively simple job, well replacing the tiles was, and yet they’ve left the place worse than it was before. He sounds like a complete rip off merchant, and his “roofers” sound like they were just labourers, and not very good ones! Unfortunately fancy websites mean nothing, and in fact most tradesmen I know don’t have websites if they are sole traders. I would report them to Trading Standards, you can do this via Citizens Advice Bureau, and leave reviews everywhere - on Google Reviews, Trustpilot and their Facebook page if they have one. You may well find other disgruntled customers on there, you won’t be the first. You can sue them through the Small Claims Court, so worth looking into. To find a decent roofer to put things right, I would go by recommendation. I realise this can be difficult if its an area where you don’t know anyone yet. Ask on Facebook for recommendations or if roofers are working in your town, knock on the door in the evening and ask if the customer would recommend them.
