Sorry, the measurements would have helped! The area is 6850 wide x 6068 long, we are planning on having the kitchen here as per the attached picture. The wall in yellow is currently blocking off another room so taking out that wall has been debated but we would have a longer room which we would still struggle to fit in the furniture we would like. Our dream is to have a nice big L shaped sofa but we are struggling to work out how we could do this

Hi! They're each quite small rooms. I suggest that you get out some graph paper and draw it out to scale and then cut out to scale shapes for a sofa, table, etc... and then play with different positions of them. Take a photo each time you arrive at a layout that seems good and then try out another one. That way you kind of try it before you buy it! Best wishes with your home purchase and redesign! Have you considered moving the kitchen back into the utility room? So it would cover the existing utility room and maybe half the existing kitchen. This would leave a big space for dining and possibly a chair or sofa looking onto the garden. I agree with Jonathan about trying to create a sightline through from the front door to garden. The utility functions could then move back into a portion of the garage, if you'd be willing to give a bit of this up? You may not need the second downstairs toilet so part of this area could be for utility.
