Which style should I do for a Breakfast nook table?

Hi our kitchen Reno is nearing the end . I have pendant lights to pick over island & Breakfast nook area. Not to mention I need 2 stools or chairs for island Along with a table and three chairs for nook.

When I was planning, I was thinking going with a nice reclaimed looking rectangle table in nook. I’ll be putting a cushion on banquette later. I’m torn On which look I should go for now? I wanted to bring a mix of modern and rustic together. Kitchen is modern with a wood look floor. If I did a wood top table with rod iron base, I would then be wise to have some black metal in my lights Right? The lights over island and breakfast nook need to be similar is style As they’re close by.

I don’t know? Do you think that look funny mixing metals. Here’s some pics of my space . Cabinets are Benjamin Moore Simply White, countertop is Cambria Brittanica. Floor is Mannington vinyl planks (Iron Hill Coal) i have an adjoining dining room with dark wood rustic floors too that We will be furnishing too. Feedback greatly welcomed. Thanks.

Just a thought: looking at your open plan layout, assuming that is your dining room just off the kitchen and you are planning on putting a table with chairs there, adding more chairs in your nook may be too much seating in one area. You may want to consider just leaving the nook as is with a nice upholstered cushion.

Why do you want a rod iron base and introduce metals or different metals . Take a look at the kitchen section at HOUZZ .....so many ideas ...!!!! Ps.you did a great job on your kitchen it's beautiful and elegant ..and would keep that theme ....

wow stellahome, what a grand house and entrance! I'm intrigued! Do you have many original features left in the house? servant bells maybe? :) Post some pictures for us! I am very familiar with lassco, in fact I currently live 5 mins away from there, and pop in often, they have many wonderful items which really enhance an old house. Took a couple of more pictures today of the dresser, as even though it looks very worn, look at the dovetail joint details! They certainly don't make them like this anymore (unless you pay a hefty price for it!)

The doors are getting painted white, it’s on the list of jobs still to be done! I wasn’t sure if it would look a bit lost and also clash a bit with the flooring. Ideally I’d like a rectangle dining table but if we keep our original one what chairs should we go for as the brown faux leather ones will not go

I was once told that you shouldn’t have more than 2 types of wood in only one space. The floor looks lovely and I’d be tempted to paint all the wooden furniture so that they read as a matching set. Rather than make them a ‘feature’ with a bright coloured paint, I’d push them into the background using a white wooden stain or antique white cracked paint. Add a toughened glass top to help reflect daylight giving protecting to the paint. If budget allowed, I’d be tempted to invest in a neutral coloured rug bringing more daylight into the room. It could be look very sophisticated!

I agree with Jonathan that the original proportions and symmetry will be important for keeping a wow factor. The house may originally have had two living spaces on the first floor so you could consider using one room there as a study. If you are a doggy family, a boot room in the basement might be useful if you can enter the house at that level. I would be inclined to have a separate laundry /ironing room on an upper floor if you don’t hang washing outside to dry. In a house this size you could consider a cinema/ computer games room in the basement if you would use it. Are you wine buffs - how about a wine cellar? Future owners can use the rooms for different things to you if they are generous enough sizes. It is important that you get to use as much of the house as suits your lifestyle as well as having a good number of bathrooms for whatever number of bedrooms you end up with. Do you entertain much? If so, would you use a formal dining room. Are you musical? Do either of you have hobbies like painting, crafting, woodwork? Do you collect things? If your living room is on a separate floor from the kitchen, how about having a tea/coffee making facility and a drinks fridge in a cupboard on that floor?

I agree. It looks like your dining area is right there. And a table would interfere with getting to the three seasons room/covered deck/? I would just leave the bench there with a nice fabric choice. If you really must have a table there, I would look at a round tulip table as the easiest to maneuver around.

I agree with others. No table at bench. Upholstered cushion.
Purchase round table that you can get around in the nook.
Your kitchen is beautiful and elegant. I wouldn’t add anything rustic. Check out Houzz shopping. There are many tables, chairs, and lighting. I have purchased several items and always pleased.
If you must have a table at bench, make it as small as you can.
A pop of color in fabric and or accessories would add to its beauty.

I also do not see the point in having a table in the nook when your dining table is right there. Unless you entertain all the time and really need that extra seating. I would suggest something like a couple comfy chairs and a round or oval coffee table or ottoman. I think you’ll find you use both areas a lot more if you rethink its purpose. I don’t think I would introduce WROUGHT iron into the space at all. It’s looking very pretty so far!

I think that a small table and a couple extra chairs will serve you for your morning coffee especially when the dining area isn't fully needed and it will give extra seating if you have a large company over, a table and extra chairs come handy during the holidays .

Some ideas for you. Reconsider island pendants and just continue with cans. Airy glam chandys for nook and dining room. Any finish. Area rug for dining room. Very similar style furniture in nook and dining furniture. Ghost chairs for the nook. And some different chairs for dining area. I really like your kitchen, but I wouldn't consider it modern and I don't think mixing in much rustic will work in such a small area. I would try to keep it all light and airy and cohesive to pull the entire space together.

Be very careful mixing your metals. I personally would not do black, as everything in your kitchen reads quite soft - Black could be too harsh. Don’t make your pendants and chandelier be matchy. Do very simple pendants that don’t fight the chandelier - and keep the metals similar to your pulls and faucet tones.

Hi thanks all. You Supported some of my own concerns.

Yes Genevieve, the floor is different in dining room. We built in the 90s and had golden oak everywhere except kitchen. it Was vinyl. I actually refinished the dining room floor myself . They used to be golden oak so I stained them as close to my vinyl plank.

Regarding pendent over island . I’m feeling they will be glass and narrow. i Have three electrical boxes over island spaced Out at 25”apart. They need to be skinny.

The nook used to have a 36” round table which is a go to eating spot For us. We seldom used our dining room. interesting proposal about a Round table. It would be elegant. I was torn about two or three chairs and now I’m thinking two for sure. I will get two chairs for island but nothing bulky. Maybe lower back. Nothing too chunky . Thanks again.

Hey if anyone reads my comments here, I’m working on backsplash. Any thoughts. I’m torn whether I do white or grey???

I vote for white subway staggered. Simple, light and clean. Maybe Beth will chime in here; she has fabulous taste and idea pics. I agree if you're using pendants for the island that clear glass would be best for not closing off the area, but I don't think you'll get the task/ambient lighting that more cans would provide. If you can swing it, now would be the time for cans everywhere. Seems like the nook and DR will be dark at night.

I would encourage you to do a round as it is easier to get to the bench. A pedestal style makes placing any feet/ chairs easy. I agree wood would be a great choice. This pedestal table can open- the pedestal splits and you can place in a leaf.

Thanks so much.. I love hearing different perspectives and views. We all need that. I've been up to my neck in kitchen planning since January 2018. So looking forward to the end and getting this feedback is amazing.

Mid America Mom, I definitely want a table to can be extendable. I did see some. We do like to entertain and we are very much kitchen people. In fact I haven't convinced my hubby yet, but I was considering changing the dining room into a sitting room, making our living room (which you cant see) the dining room.

Maybe I’m confused but it looks like the two dining tables will be next to each other. Why not just put two nice upholstered chairs in the breakfast nook and use the dining room for eating.
