Stone wall or render?
Hello!
I was hoping for opinions on the garden wall of our new home. I personally don’t like the stone as the whole house is being re-rendered and will be hopefully looking crisp and sharp after being renovated.
With the wall do you think the stone makes a nice contrast or should I render the wall to match the house?
im really confused as not sure which would look more suited to the style of the house?
Any opinions woukd really really help? Many thanks in advance!!

Comments (13)Hi Danny, currently looking at your photo I can see trees, Sky, and space which is nice. If you cram too much on the plot I feel it would look over developed. However having a large family you do need space indoors and converting the garage would be a good idea. Regarding the extra bedroom it's a shame to fill the space between you and your neighbour. However I do appreciate the families needs. Regarding a log cabin, I just felt a wooden form of carport with storage shed at back may be better on the eye. A softer look, less brick. Comments (14)I did also read about the Window Tax - it make sense to explain why I have so many blocked up windows. I think I do need to put a window back in on the side above the front door or at least give the impression of a window or similar - looks too plain otherwise. I think on balance sticking with just the off-white looks best and most in-keeping. The pic above has the window put back in and it does look much better balanced. Could I maybe put the window in with some obscure glass (or maybe mirrored glass) but have it blocked off on the inside? It would make very useful in-built storage in the bathroom....See More- 7 years ago
7 years agoI love natural stone walls so I would leave it as it is. Natural stone walls are always finishing with larger top stones. Yorkshire is full of them! As already said, imagine how filthy the wall would get if it was rendered. I think the abundance of planting definitely needs thinning out. It must make the house very dark. I’m not saying chop it all down, just thin out the number of shrubs/trees. Here are a couple of examples of stone walls in thr country with larger top stones.
