Thanks for the recommendation! I think it’s a good one and keen to look at different materials so I’ll try and have a look at it, trouble is so many furniture suppliers and online only aren’t they! Love the fact that it’s the right size without extensions required too!

It doesnt look bad where it is but have you tried moving the table to the wall with the green pictures, parallel to the peninsula?

You could also perhaps consider a round table and place it in the middle of the space.

I would love a round table but I’m not sure that it will seat as many people as a rectangular table in the same space? But putting a smaller table that can be extended in the middle of the space may well look smarter. Thank you for the suggestions!

Your kitchen/dining/living layout is something that I'd been considering in our space. I'd be interested to see the rest of the space if you'd be happy to share this? And with your kitchen layout, are you happy with it and is there anything you'd change?

With regards to the table, we had a very similar issue buying a new toddler proof one. We decided to not spend a lot in the end and went for a wipe clean veneer option with plenty of wipe clean placemats! Not sure how it will hold out against fork bashing though...I think when you have kids, sometimes practicality wins over design!! We did have a look at Jerry in the Habitat range which may be wipeable, but may not be big enough.

LM, yes you’re also right, maybe just a cheap option is the best way to go until the kids are old enough to be careful and then later we can get matching chairs too.
We love the layout of the house, it works very well for us. We bought the house because of its location and the kitchen/dining/living space. Here are a few more pics...
The main negative point for us is the lack of utility room (at the moment, we have space to extend and hope the start the project next year), the washing machine and dishwasher are very noisy when trying to watch TV in the evening so I’m my opinion moving the washing machine out and getting a quieter dishwasher are essential. We also have a downstairs playroom which really helps to keep the main living area a little tidier as the kids have their own space to mess up.

We have an oak table from IKEA, they no longer sell it, but it is essentially an oak breakfast bar on legs, so you could make one the size you want for the space.
Wood might not be the first option that springs to mind when looking for something that is wipeable and hardwearing. However ours is over 10years old and has stood up to 2 kids (6 & 3) plus a dog who frequently walks on it. Claw and fork marks can be lightly sanded out, as does any pen that doesn’t wipe off. Other than that it just needs an occasional wipe with wood oil.

From a fellow mumma, glass top is hard wearing for mucky fingers. Mine gets dirty quickly but cleans up very easily too with no lasting damage.
