Help required please!

Hi, we recently had our bathroom re-designed and what a nightmare, turns out the tiler really didn’t have a clue!

Could anyone recommend colours/mirror/blind ideas please. Thinking a large mirror in the centre of the wall but then it may look strange not over the basin?

Also the floor is terrible, may think of getting it re-done diffferntly. So disappointed with the finish. Thanks

I really like the wall tiles, so let's start with the good bit. The floor could have been better as it competes with the wall, and I think you could have chosen a better tile, also, ones the same size as the tiles on the walls so that the grout lines could have married up. It's unlikely the floor could have been laid better as no rooms are square and you would have had cuts getting bigger on one of the walls, it's a shame that it happens to be the wall that you see the most of. ( If that's what you think is wrong with it.

I agree the finish isn't great and the biggest problem I feel is the shower tray and terrible mastic around it.

I would hide more of the floor by putting in a larger, lower profile tray end to end to make it look a lot more up market. It will take your eye away from the size of the floor tiles too, as there won't be so many of them.

I would also paint the door as it just doesn't look right in white.

If I were going to all that trouble, with the tray, then I would take up the floor tiles and use the wall tiles for the floor too.

You could keep the glass the same size but definitely improve the tray. Here's one i've just finished.

If you are coming in the house from the garage most of the time then you can have a look at what Americans call mud room. Maybe remove the wall between utility room and have a large utility/ mud room with lots of cabinets and seating bench/ hanging space etc . Or if you have kids make it into a study area. I wish I have an extra room, nice house by the way.

Im confused is the green for the hall or the loo? I really like the pelt in the hall and think you should keep it... for now at least. I do like that jungle green (my son has chosen it for his room - next project!), but I'm not sure it'd work in a hallway.

Hi, the room mostly looks airy & calming. I think the difficulty is the sofa which is so dark compared to most of the rest of the furnishings. If you’d had some natural wood furniture it would have helped blend the light & dark tones. However, I like your white furniture & think some pattern, eg monochrome patterns would help to bring the room together. You could add any colour but if you want to stick with mostly pale neutrals, adding some different textures would also help. Some artwork above the sofa would be good & also some greenery - maybe a large floorstanding plant.

Not sure if i need to start a new post but i have booled the decorator to come to paint all the fascias, soffits, guttering, downpipes and garage doors for now. But what colours? From pica attached you cam see we currently have an awful pale blue underneath. Would u do this again with the very dark charcoal colour which we are going to do our garage doors? Or would u keep it all white? Or would u paint the gutters and downpipes in the charcoal... or keep them white? Advise pls

Hi, yes I agree that flooring is terrible. A proper, qualified and experienced tiler would never have left it like that. Now I don’t want to exert more pressure on you, but you really should get him to reimburse you enough to get the flooring re-done. But that’s up to you.

i think your idea of a mirror is a great idea. I’d go for big and ornate to jazz It up a bit. White towels always look smart in a dark bathroom. They don’t have to be expensive, Dunelm and The Range do some nice ones. A blind would be good, either a linen roller type natural one, or a faux slatted wooden Venetian.

Dusty pink always looks good with brown, so if white towels are not for you, you could try this. A few plants dotted about would look nice, either faux or real. Here’s a few pics for inspiration.

From what I can see from your pictures the biggest problem with the tiling is the grouting and caulking/sealing around edges.
The place where I bought my wall and floor tiles from were really pernickety about helping me to choose the colour of the grout and I had no idea why until it came to the finished product. I think if you got someone to come and redo this (with perfectly matched colour grouting). It would make a huge difference and might lessen your disappointment.

Why not just install vinyl flooring with a nice pattern as shown on Forza Italia's first photo. That looks great, is very easy to install and will get rid of any missmatched grouting, etc. As for the mirror, you definitely have to position it above the basin. And to balance it out, put a nice painting in the same size on the left. That would fill the empty space and add some visual interest.

I agree with man about the house, the door looks a little out of place such a bright white a different colour might work better.

Mirrors i would pick a large mirror so it sits over the basin (lines up on the right hand) but take it along the wall to where the shower is, it won't look so odd not being central then and give you illusion or more width to the room.

I would also fit a larger shower tray the width of the room, that again will make your bathroom feel larger and no need for bigger glass.

I personally would take the floor up, maybe a lighter floor and large square tiles 60x60cm would make the room feel bigger and you would have less grout joins.

I like the wall tiles and the layout and sorry you had a rough experience with the tiler/fitter.

Sorry not had time to read above so hopefully I am not repeating.. nothing wrong with the mirror suggested but I would go for a full side to side mirror.. full length of that wall (2 tiles high) running from the basin right to the corner. If you can, a water proof blind at the window would soften the dark lines of the grout a little - it can still be stone or black colour but the change in material will give that result.

I really like all the tiles. A couple of simple changes could improve the look. Could you put a large plant / pot at the end of the shower to fill that empty space and take your eye away from the tile joints? Then you could add a beading around the door frame etc to cover the rough edges. There are so many now you could match easily. Finally, mirror, towels, accessories to bring it all together.

From reading all the comments I think the cheapest and quickest options suggested that would improve the tiling is to change the shower tray to a wall to wall one (the waste can stay in the same place to minimise impact) or put a big pot plant in the corner. I think it is the bottom corner where the wall meets the floor which is the biggest culprit.

May I also suggest changing the window glass to a plain satin glass? It would not be expensive or time consuming and would bring the style up to date with the rest of the room.

How about a long full length mirror on the wall opposite the shower?...it would reflect light and make the room feel more spacious and detract attention from the tiles.

I agree with MATH but would consider also re-doing the wall grout in a more closely matched or maybe slightly lighter colour.
