Kitchen a bit too beige!
Comments (21)Thanks for all your suggestions. Just thought I would update you with some initial changes I have made. Firstly I have a new table cloth and have moved the fruit bowl and added a few new accessories (have a new oven glove and some tea towels arriving too), but the biggest change so far is that I have painted the grouting on the floor tiles which I think has lightened the whole thing immensely (great tip!) and stopped it feeling quite so drab (and stopped me hating the tiles as much). Next stage is going to be for us to change the lights and get the ceiling skimmed. We are going to have many more LED spot lights (with possibly a hanging light over the table - although bit concerned might keep banging my head on this when leaning over the table but maybe not such an issue with a round table?) and was considering adding some small lights on the plinths / kick boards to bring some light up from floor level. We are also going to change the cupboard and drawer handles, art work (bringing out the green) and paint the walls (thinking white maybe with a hint of green?). Also thinking we will remove the wall tiles and just have a glass splash back behind the sink and hob. Changing the blinds and table / chairs will be a bit further down the line. Hadn't really thought of a round table but thinking maybe a round glass one with oak feet (have seen some nice ones) and some white slatted blinds. Thanks for your help so far and would be interested to know what you think?...See Moreideas for kitchen wall and splashback?
Comments (12)Maybe others will have ideas but you seem a bit limited in what you can do or to me anyway assuming you chose the glass lid for safety. I'd paint the walls in a washable, moisture resistant paint (I might look at little Greene ). If you still want a splashblack of sorts you could just paint in a splashblack which could look quite effective or maybe use a metallic leaf or the microcement/polished plaster could work, I'm just not sure how thick it is but I believe it's extremely thin (I will see if I can find a pic if you like that idea). You could always add shelves over the sink...See MoreSplashback ideas for kitchen
Comments (20)Hi, if you want to inject some colour into your kitchen via the splashback you might like to think about an LED illuminated splashback. You can set it on one particular colour or set it to scroll through colours. You can also have a splashback with white colour temperature controllable LEDs in it if you prefer - this means you can switch it from warm white, to cool white to daylight depending on the effect you wish to create at any particular time of the day/evening/season. Do have a look at http://www.litetile.co.uk/portfolio/ to see the effect that can be created in a kitchen....See MoreKitchen ideas for industrial look
Comments (15)Agree with above comment, that I think you can work with the existing units until you have the budget to replace them, just give them a good clean with sugar soap, take the handles off and spray paint them in Matt black. Easy!. For me it’s the flooring and worktop that need attention. Replace flooring with a concrete effect vinyl or if you you’re painting the units then a rustic wood effect would look nice. Worktop has seen better days, at the very least put a metal end cap (not sure of correct term) at the end where it’s worn away. Tiles can be replaced/ painted, I wouldn’t expose brick behind a work surface tho because of food spills, nightmare cleaning etc. plus you could use brick effect wallpaper elsewhere in the kitchen perhaps? Some rustic plank shelves would look great instead of the wall cabinet. Hang them with simple brackets upside down for a more modern look, maybe include an under shelf wine glass rack. Use hanging racks for utensils, pots and pans etc. Lighting is also important, maybe use some metal pipes with dangly Edison bulbs. Anyway here’s some photos for inspiration (click to enlarge)....See Morekwg kwg
