Splashback ideas for kitchen
Hi Guys,
I need advice with ideas for my kitchen design as under.
Its a U shaped kitchen with Tall units in the middle and under worktop units only on either sides with a large island in the middle. all cooking will happen on the island itself.
The cabinets are gloss grey with worktop being in a light colour for the U shape.
For the island, the work top is Corian Arrowroot and the cabinets are matt wood in hues of browns and burgundy. burgundy is very less.
Now my query is a splashback required? I was looking at Mosaic tiles for spashback. Cant decide if gold / mettalic / white would look ? and if yes what should be the height of splashback?? should it go on just the back walls or the sides as well? what about the one next to the window??
The floor is going to be pale as well. haven't reached that far as yet.

Comments (2)Hi Sassy G, It's great how much natural light you are getting into this space from the patio doors and the light fixtures and fittings will help create the feel of a bigger space. For the Living Area: I would suggest a 2 seater against the back wall (as per your plan) and a small coffee table in front with your 2 cocktail chairs facing inwards. This helps create the feel of a separate living area but also accommodates for additional seating for guests. Or instead of the 2 cocktail chairs you could have an upholstered storage bench which doubles up as storage as well as seating. This is also great because it keeps the openness of the space. For the Kitchen: For the splashback I think a high gloss teal finish would look lovely here. It adds a splash of colour, its bright (but not too bright) and different and would look great against your current worktop. Paint ideas: Having an off white colour is a good choice for the living and dining area. You could also try two different paint colours for each of these rooms to help break up the space or incorporate a feature all paint colour such as Farrow and Ball 'Peignoir'. Comments (85)@pma - yes I thought about the silver side and although it looked better (guess because of all the silver in the room) it kind of drained the wall? Made it feel colder? Weird. I got a bronzed brass sample from the metal sheet company and before I painted the wall, you couldn’t really see all the colours in it (just looked black) Then after painting, all the bronze and colours popped out of it so I’m getting a price. Will be something we will have to save for as it will be super expensive ie probably over £600 so we are going to live with the painted wall for now and add the shelves etc then see what we think :0) Going to get some gold toned hanging lights as they might just lift that area without it being too much....See MoreViews on kitchen copper splashback with very dark grey cabinets
Comments (12)I agree with Dual Designs that your colour scheme has a potential to look great, and I think dark(er) kitchens are here to stay for a good, good while. Copper adds a warmth and a textured softness of sorts (if metals can be soft, of course, be we are talking comparative feel of the space). I'd probably go for muted kind of navy(ish) or very dark (and also muted) green rather than slate OR black, but a very matte very dark slate might work the best. Comments (13)Would you consider a mirrored splash back running from the sink to the hob but frame it with tiles. Maybe a neutral subway tile. This would definitely bounce some light through the kitchen and allow you to see what’s going on with the family/guests while you work away....See More

9 years agoI really like the way the ovens are framed but agree with the comments about perceived gaps. Personally I don't think you have to have complete symmetry- I think I would have wall cabinets or shelves to the left of the tall bank. To the right I would probably have a straight run (rather than put the sink under the window). This would leave room at the window end of the island for a worktop overhang so anyone using stools won't bang knees.
As far as splashback goes- I think your chosen kitchen has very clean simple lines and mosaic is busy by comparison with lots of grout lines. Personally I would have a glass or mirror section behind the sink- alternatively have a splashback in the same material as the worktop.

I like antique mirror as it doesn't have to be polished clean every day.
If you decide on regular mirror avoid bright silver mirrors that would be used in a bathroom as they will be too bling- a grey or bronze mirror will look nicer

That said (sorry guys) I would go distressed mirror. Lends interest to a sleek space, dead practical as unlike glass or mirror , doesn't need constant polishing, just cleaning like anything else. Here is ours.
