I would skip going around the window, you will see the difference in the tile on the sides every time you look at it. It will also be very busy due to the pattern. For some tiles going around the window works great, some are better left at the regular back splash height.

Even though this is in a herringbone pattern, you can see that the intersection or “line” as you put it isn’t in the same place on both sides of the window:

...re-read your post and saw you planned on going around the window. Let me add tile around window so you can see the difference.

Just continue the pattern. You have made a common rookie mistake - starting the pattern in a corner or end of run. Next time, start the pattern centered on the dominate feature of the wall. (One wall centered over range, one wall centered at window.) Doing so allows the "odd cuts" to end in the corners and at the end of the run where they aren't noticed. Don't fret, just learn from the error.

Thanks! This is a point of contention with my husband and I. . . becuase we do know that rule we just had differing opinions on what the dominante wall was. I said the window, he said the bigger wall you look at as you come into our kitchen . . . he won the argument. Now I realize I should have stuck to my gut :(

Ok, here's an even crazier photoshopped version, but I really think I prefer the tile only going half way. I don't think the tile going all the way up (on the left) will look very good and draws too much attention to the uncentered tile layout.

Wow thank you so much for taking the time to do this. After seeing it I'm not quite sure I'm a huge fan. Would it be an option to go higher than traditional cabinet height but not all the way up? Like say to the middle of the window, or would that be pointless?

Since you are already part-way through the installation, unless you want to re-do (and I know that my DH doesn't enjoy re-doing what was already decided and done) I think you should consider sticking with Glo's original layout as pictured. It's interesting without drawing attention and retains functionality of the tiled backsplash.

I wouldn't bother going half-way up. Really that's only a couple tiles higher and that end point makes less sense than stopping it at the bottom of the cabinet height. Plus, the less attention drawn to the uncentered tile, the better.

I agree going around the window is not worth it. Just stop at the bottom of the cabinets.

I think it might work to go higher; so that the cabinet bottom "line" doesn't intersect visually with the tile lines. Cut up a sheet of paper or cardboard into rectangles that are your tile size and tape them up so you can visualize the end result.

How are you doing the top row? Make a paper template for that too.

What if you added bigger window trim? Then you wouldn't notice.
