Simplest way would be to paint them the same colour as the wall.

I would paint rad and pipes with the wall color.

As other pipes ( ones underneath ) are surface mounted, why would you think a plumber would then chase them in to a wall ? He's followed the same as is below his new copper pipe. It's unfair to call it a Bodge job when the existing pipes are the same.

It looks like the feed for that rad comes down the side of the wall ( under the new conduit )., and I presume was the existing feed not the one below it. So why would the plumber think you would like the new pipes in the wall?

Plumbers don't chase walls unless specifically asked to ( not really in their remit ), plus you have to then make the walls good, and paint / decorate. He would also have had to find out where the wiring for that socket was ( also not his remit ), so pay for an electrician first to remove and isolate with a view to putting it back afterwards. So, I stick by the above, as the existing pipes are on the surface, the plumber has followed suit, this is not wrong,

It may not be perfect in today's world, but if exisiting pipework is of that ilk, why would a plumber think that you would like that one rad plumbed differently?

Homeowners need to take some responsibility here. Yes the plumber could have asked first I suppose? However, all of the above to plumb in one rad with pipes in the wall, would involve two trades, and they'd probably charge for at least a day and half labour and you'd still have holes in the wall to fill and decorate.

Hi Juby R, i'd use the same wall paint, never had a problem with it peeling of pipes or radiators before, Just make sure your pipes are cold first!

I would ask for neater pipework if possible ideally with the pipes coming out of the wall. Also a nicer valve would help, that matches better to the radiator rather than white plastic. Our black nickel valves are particularly popular with dark grey radiators for example. And if pipes come from the wall, then a corner valve is by far the neatest option.

We have changed the valves now to matching ones and painted the pipework. Looks 10 times better! Thanks all.

If it is a stud wall then pipes in a wall is fine but in a brick wall you waste heat into the wall unless you could insulate it with about 100mm of insulation, heating pipes belong inside the envelope of the building I am not a plumber but an engineer it is a matter of therodynamics
