carpet runner (advice on fitting)

Can anyone tell me, I’m I being picky with the fitting of this carpet? It seems to be sitting squint on the step. Just wanted to get a second opinion before I decide what to do. Had problems from the start with the whole experience of buying from a major retailer, still in the process of securing goodwill gesture/discount for missed appointments etc and Think I was just relieved that it was finally down.

Comments (3)Hello madamemaison, I would definitely say runner! So much nicer... You already have a guide line and can just give it a fresh coat of white there continue to the last two steps as normal... I'd leave the banister as is too. I notice where the original carpet extends quite far out.. You could bring it in slightly... So a narrower runner and then see a little more of the painted sides.... Comments (13)Don’t feel bad about complaining. They should have done a better job! My mums hall carpet was laid by Allied Carpets years ago. When I visited I saw it finished short by about 1 1/2 inches leading up to the front door! What??? I went in store and politely explained the problem. They promptly took up the new carpet and then put down a replacement one which was fitted right up to the door. Shame as you bought local and independent and they let you down. One word of warning - when complaining always be polite, get them on your side - you always attract more bees with honey than vinegar! Unfortunately I have already ordered it from roger oates so will have to foot a fee to cancel or change for different ! As for the tiled floor I will try and see what best I can do to clean up , we have done it once a few years ago . I want to keep it . Thank you again ....See More
7 years ago- 7 years agoThanks guys, it is an old house and the little landing isn’t square I don’t think. The weave maybe makes it look worse in real life I think as it has a definite line in the weave.
Paid nearly £500 for the fitting so just wanted to make sure they had just done the best job they could. When the estimator came out with his fancy measuring gadgets he didn’t say anything about the stairs being wonky and we didn’t think the stripe would be so obvious from the sample we had. It’s the type of thing you maybe only notice if it catches your eye.
That particular piece of carpet has been cut slightly off on the left (looking at it straight on) which probably doesn’t help).
Do you think we should just let it go?
