Much needed design help please

I have had our fireplace like this for the past 8 years and cannot for the life of me come up with a design solution that would make this area nicer. I don't think the mirror is very nice but we got used to it. The mantle piece is wonky too, so it's difficult to balance anything fragile on it.
If anyone has any ideas I would so appreciate them.

Comments (9)Is the roof glass like shown on the images? If so, before you do your kitchen here, I would try and talk to someone who has done this. I have a client I am currently working with for their layout. They came to use because the previous owners did exactly what you are suggesting and it was unbearable to be in there in the hotter months/days. The owners did the work then sold it because they didn't like it in the end, and the new owners are now paying me to rip it out and put it back in the existing covered part of the house with the dining room in the glass area, with storage and play area. It's definitely worth looking at before you go ahead with something so major and costly. I think as @Jonathan suggested, I would try and open the space up further, even if it means waiting a little longer for it :) ...best to get it right the first time. Comments (10)Yes, your design is lovely indeed! 1. isn't an island but has a whole lot of countertop space, which might come in handy for preparing large family dinners with multiple people. 2. true, the distance is the 'price' for the larger island i guess, besides i like the connection with both dining and lounge without the column blocking the view. 3. both have about 5m countertops, pulling the island somewhat towards the storage would provide more space for stools....See MorePorch Design help needed please
Comments (2)What type of material were you thinking of to replace all the uPVC? Not sure whether you would need planning for this as I assume this is your main entrance? I would start by getting quotes from builders to do what you are suggesting. It would look much better with the extended brickwork from a symmetry perspective. Cottage style windows in wood or wood effect in a softer colour could really change the appearance....See Moregarden design help needed please
