Modern houses are sometimes built with internal walls constructed with plasterboard with a small cavity between the two sheets of board. Try tapping the walls..........brick or solid walls sound quite different to plasterboard. However the plasterboard should have a thin layer of plaster over it. If this isn't the case it should be done before you redecorate once the wallpaper has been removed. These types of wall also have implications with regard to hanging mirrors and pictures as they need special fixings. Investigate the construction a bit more and it may give you some answers. Wow TWO YEARS LATER and I've just solved my old but lovely furniture problem. It's all gone to the Museum of Work at Bath! Even the bentwood chairs (not Thonet!) which need work, was willingly taken because they have a volunteer cabinet maker there. I'm over the moon about this so thanks to Stuart who runs the museum and who took them. But guess what, he only lives 5 doors down from me! 5 doors in 25 months that's 5 months per house, amazing how long it's taken us to get to know the neighbours! Thanks also to everyone who came up with ideas on what to do with them.

Definitely a dressing room for me! We have just bought a new house and we never intended a 4 bedroom home but found one that ticked all the other boxes we wanted that we could actually afford. We don't need that many bedrooms so I'm nicking the smallest for myself as a dressing room. Hubby gets the downstairs study to himself to get his geek on within so it's all above board! The small bedroom is not attached to either my bedroom or a bathroom (it's across the hall) but it's a start. I will admit there is lots to do when we move but I daydream mostly about this room and cannot wait to have my own private space. Not just for clothes and make up but to do things like journal and listen to music and decorate all for just myself!
