Difficult hallway, help!

Hi all!

I'm having a hard time trying to figure out what to do with my hallway. At the moment it has a funky sideboard on one side (very narrow! 22cms depth) and the radiator on the other side. Right next to the rad. there's a laundry bin.

Every single room in the flat has a door to this hall, and I'm in despair about hot to provide some storage (I don't need a lot, but defo the laundry basket and some wee space to have the bits and bobs you usually have like keys, phones, car GPS, coins jar, wallets, etc.)

Any ideas?

Hi, photos of the hall will help, but here are some ideas. Do you really have to keep the laundry bin in the hall? Can't it be in the bathroom or bedroom?

Anyway, Ikea's shoe storage cabinets aren't only suitable for shoes. Also, a narrow shelf (think picture shelf) above the radiator perhaps?

I am also a fan of the IKEA shoe cupboards.

Also slimline but stylish radiators work really well in a hall. We can now get very skinny cast iron as well as modern designs that don't project out into the room.

A slight daring suggestion I have would be to paint on the windows themselves with a very thin layer of watered down acrylic paint or liquid chalk that will dry and begin to make a stained glass window effect as the window is rather small to work with but can become a bit of a feature. It may even add a splash of colour.

Unable to see what the room looks like in natural daylight or there is indeed a good source of natural light. However, avoid a single lighting source, i.e a chandelier. The chandelier you have makes the corners of the room dark and gives a closed-in feeling. Have LED downlights installed across your ceiling - six to eight should spread the brightness across the room and allow light to reach the dark corners. They save energy too £££ :)

Hi Lisa, I completely understand your dilemma, I'm moving house soon and have exactly the same type of window as you. My suggestion would be to have a Voile roller blind, as I know that you said you don't like Voile curtains. This would be a great way of keeping your privacy in the room, whilst still allowing plenty of light into your room. I'd then pair this with Dorma Window Curtain Poles (the would be to the side of the recess rather than within). I've attached images of both of my suggestions below. Lovey entrance by the way. Where you have a sofa, i would change the style of seating. If you want a unique cool look search on ebay for some original cinema/theatre seats usually in Red velvet or Royal Blue and the ones that are joined and the seats pads move up when your not seated, depending on the age they can be wood, there is an amazing pair onebay at the moment parisian ones aged 1930's-40's. If you dont like the original look you can always restore them a little. On the other side i would then add a console table with a lamp, and hide the coats in a storage cupboard, ( is that a storage cuobourd on the left?). A lamp will lighten the hallway a little. I would move the clocks to a bigger wall in the house and replace with a mirror a little like the one on the right. Theatrical to match the seats.
