Great idea. I think two trellis/wooden planters would look good either side (see pic below) which you can plant up with evergreens like bamboo, skimmia and ferns with a few annuals for colour such as begonias and bizzie Lizzies (Impatients) - they don’t survive our winters but give a great display during the summer. I’ve never done a living wall so not sure how well plants grow in them. There are loads more plants that like shade but this is a start!

I can't use a planter against the wooden wall because the door opens on to the balcony. That's why I was thinking of a living wall (see photo). That said I've never created a living wall either - how hard can it be ;)
I could definitely use the planter at the other end and hadn't actually considered this! I think it's a great idea and I love the plant suggestions too, particularly the evergreens, thank you!

These sacks that you can hang could be nice. Plant them with shade loving plants. Only problem I can see might be watering, which could get a bit messy if not done carefully. Perhaps put plants in their pots in there, so you can take them out. Not sure if that's possible with these pockets, whether they are deep enough.

There is porous drip feed tubing which you see used in public spaces hanging baskets and window boxes. It could ensure optimum/minimum watering that should suit.

I was in a garden centre the other day and saw the felt wall hangers for plants 'live'. They are really cool! Pockets were bigger than I thought.

Yea, those wall hangers look really nice, they have become quite a trend in Holland I think. Saw them in many garden centres in different guises recently.

How much space do you have behind the door? some standing shelving might be quite useful and pretty. That way you always can change or add plants, plant-pots, decorations, lights etc. It’s good to store a pretty gardening tools.
