Help! My living room looks a bit dull.
Comments (15)1. Curtains It depend of the orientation and if you are overlooked. The double rail is a good idea to give you privacy in the evening with a second layer of curtains. Just be aware when choosing the colours of the fabric on the sides during the day, it can really suck up light and it looks like a large window. The pole could be black or copper as Minnie suggested, picking up the browns of floor and accessories. See trough curtains like light coloured veil with a simple vertical stripes pattern will maximise the natural light. 2. Rugs Definitely patterned, geometric or abstract. http://wovenground.net/modern/abstract/canevas-_-abstract/stone Low pile or high pile? It also depend on your life style ... have you got pet, children or allergies? The high pile need a bit more attention. 3. Walls The kitchen can be treated as a separate space and painted in a different colour. The room is quite narrow so keep it light and preferably not feature wall on the wider side as it will make the room feeling even more narrow. A feature wall is used to bring the room's shape back in proportion. 4. Mirror above the radiator A round mirror, or a square will break the length of the room better then a rectangular one. It will be the first thing you see entering? Have fun and send pic of the before and after :-)...See MoreNew kitchen idea - is it a bit odd?
Comments (17)I like the balance of your areas so I’d keep it simple. Block up the door between your kitchen and hall, then put a new kitchen in. Use the wall where the door was for full run of talls. Get rid of the fridge freezer (looks great but not an efficient use of space) and replace with an integrated (we have a full height integrated fridge which has useful storage above). You can then have a L-shaped run of worktop and wall units on the other 2 walls. Get the extra high wall units that get you as close to the ceiling as possible to maximise storage - my wife can’t reach ours but it’s not a big deal because we use the highest shelves for the stuff we only occasionally need. Also we had a corner hob like yours in our old kitchen - it adds visual interest but wastes the space behind it. Get an induction hob - brilliant things that are easy to keep clean. Stick to white for the wall units and talls to help the space feel light and airy. Add texture or colour with the base units. As someone else said, your utility room seems a waste of space but I think maximising your existing kitchen space would be sufficient - unless you need a lot more worktop and storage than we do. Just my opinion, but I don’t think there’s much wrong with your layout that a good hard think about the design of a new kitchen can’t put right! Best of luck....See Morebathroom vanities with double sinks
Comments (0)It is for our lake home, so I need something that will fit with pine paneling. Also, I need to fit into existing space - about 10 feet long by 5 feet wide. I can take the old tub out, but would love a vanity big enough for a space in the middle to have a chair to sit down and dry hair. Also would love to be able to separate toilet a bit from vanity if possible....See MoreAchieve more sense of space.
Comments (9)Here’s what I would do. (I have 2 kids and 2 step kids, all between 9&12) The playroom concept didn’t really last long for us past the age of 8 when they all decided they would rather be in there own rooms. I’m guessing what you really want is to be able to see the kids playing whilst you’re in the kitchen until they’re a bit older. Like Jonathan said you are spending a decent amount of money and should benefit from this long term rather than for the kids in the short term. Go big on storage (you have a long new wall you could fill this with) and put up with tidying/make them tidy their stuff away for just another couple of years. Then, when the boys are more interested in consoles and iPhones let them either do that in the front living space or in their rooms. Just thought of something I haven’t put on my drawing is a boot room/mucky entrance. These are a godsend so if you can factor one in straight into the utility space you’ll never regret it, especially with a downstairs shower in there....See More- 7 years ago
