Mairead, I think that Comfort is a big consideration as well as colour. I recommend that you choose barstools with backs. I have lived in two places with breakfast bars in American style kitchens. I found that I tended to spend a great deal of time sitting there so a bar stool with a comfortable back is important. I made mine from pine, copied from some I saw in a bar. I was also given an old captains swivel seat from a yacht so I built a stand for it, reupholstered it and unfortunately left it for the new tenant who liked it. That was one of my favourite seats, to sit in comfort at a breakfast bar rather than balancing without a back to lean on.

Light grey, natural/beige or perhaps a tan leather one, I’d say. I feel that it will get too dark if you go for the same colour as the sofa. And I would lower the clock, switch one of the mirrors (probably the one over the sofa) with art and pull the rug a tad more towards the sofa :-)

Definitely agree on the caution about the wood, interesting table idea too. Carolina I quite like both so I'll definitely look into both styles some more aha. And I quite like the colour ideas from Beano, thank you everyone :)
