Hi John, We would always suggest external insulation rather than internal insulation, where you have the option, because as John Botham states there is a real risk of interstitial condensation, and potential mould and damage to the structure. If you do need to do it internally be careful not to add to much and ensure it is fitted carefully without gaps and with a good vapour barrier - especially around electric sockets etc. if you use a product such as Kingspan. It is also vital that you return the insulation in around the windows, this makes significant differences to overall performance and the risk of condensation and mould at this point, though this insulation can be thinner. We often recommend a breathable insulation such as Pavadentro when internal insulation is required, as this allows the moisture to come in and out of the wall. Careful detailing at internal wall junctions, floors and roof are also needed, along with good airtightness sealing, while you are doing it. Putting a price on external insulation is difficult as it depends on many factors, such as needing to move down pipes, extending eaves etc, along with thickness and type of insulation. A good render, installed correctly should last many years without the need for any maintenance and can perform to a much higher standard than internal. I’m glad I found this post. Feeling like I could cry. Just had front and back of the house rendered in Atlas ‘off white’ (renderer said white was too stark) so went with off white…The colour looks like it has a tinge of pink/lilac/grey to it 😭 😭😭 Feeling very depressed as it was a big job. I was advised by the renderers to repaint using silicone paint.

Finally getting around to thinking about finishing the painting again ... and I went to b&q but all the white masonry there was pure white or yellow toned. Got some card samples of valspar but wow - it’s expensive and can’t decide between some. I have a Johnstone’s and dulux paint mix service closer to me and they mix F&B colours at Johnstone’s. Wondering if Wimbourne white is any good??? I tried emailing K rend AGAIN to ask what paint matches their pure white render (which is just off white) but no response. Any experience with wimbourne? Is it a warmer/softer not blue white than timeless?

We’ve just had our extension rendered. I told the plasterer we’d like it in white, he said we didn’t want white as it gets very dirty really easily and we’d always be cleaning it. He suggested we go for ‘chalk white’ and that it would still look white... we said ok, we’d not seen a sample (our mistake). Well, it doesn’t look white, it definitely looks creamy, more of a dirty white and I don’t like it. is there anything that can be done, can they re-render over the top or need to start again? I so wish I’d stuck to my guns but I know nothing about render 😕
