It might be more efficient for you to push the bed next to the window, it's very common in big city apartments with smaller dimensions.

Yes, I'd place the bed against the wall and the nightstand there - That's the way my bed is (about a foot away from the windows) and it's fine.

I would stop the curtain right above your bedding, otherwise it will get in the way of when you sleep.

So you can use for the window roman blind ,it's more better than curtains in this case.

I just want to add my vote of agreement for putting the bed by the window. We have a double bed positioned like this in my son's tiny room in our house, and it makes it feel like the bed is part of a cozy windowseat. We have a tree right outside that window, and my son says it feels like his bed is in a treehouse. The one downside is that it makes it harder to make the bed, but well worth the extra space.

Tough size. If you have to have the wardrobe in the room, your best option is next to the window. You can have full length drapes, but with so little room, you'll find a roman shade or fully lined woven wood blind will be much easier to operate.

I checked the house floor plans and in fact it's a bit smaller than that! It's 10'6" x 10'6"!

@stylish do you mean have my wardrobe next to the window along the wall at the bottom of my room? I wonder if it'll block out any light ...

I agree put the bed beside the window, go for an interlined roman blind instead of curtains and if you can have an upholstered pelmet in a matching or contrast fabric they look great and cover the top of the blind. I would also suggest having some lighting for reading etc on the wall there are some great options out there, best of luck!

Hi rosieb, Marie here. I agree that with all the large pieces of wardrobes and dressers that you will either need to get rid of one of them, or push your bed against the window wall. You definitely don't have room for nightstands, get creative and use your smaller dresser as a night stand - that will give you some breathing room here. Of course, I am assuming that the sizes of boxes are all to scale with the size of your bedroom. Window treatments and accessorizing is the least of your worries until you figure out your furniture arrangement. I would put your prettiest furniture as you come in, which would be your dressing table and drawers - the wardrobe needs to be hidden in the corner and not the first thing you see. Floorplan below - don't add more nightstands - your room is very cluttered now!

Thanks! That's a brilliant room plan! All the furniture has just been bought this month, and it wasn't cheap. I think my parents may murder me if I say I don't want it anymore :P The furniture is quite pretty as well, even though it's just solid wood. Thank you very much though, I really love room plans!!

I will upload some photos now! This is my room (it is a bit sparse and jumbled up but I've just put the furniture up!) I've just painted my walls white but I painted over yellow so it isn't that harsh :) I've started a lookbook with some ideas but I haven't got very far. Very nice - definitely shabby chic - I would move your wardrobe to the end of the bed and use your dressing table as your night stand, the window wall has a natural night stand in the ledge - artwork will be important - go big - don't put up lots of little things, it will continue with the "clutter" theme, and that's NOT a good thing. Find one big inspiration - whether it be a cool tie-dye or more feminine like the crochet art below - add a bit of colour from your art into toss cushions and then that's all - try to keep your dressers and such free of debris as your room is very small, clutter is your enemy...

Hi rosieb, just so you know, shabby chic isn't sixties... shabby chic is lots of white on white, with hits of natural wood. Your furniture choice is actually very country, but you don't seem to be a country girl, so, next assumption would be your style is shabby chic. First two photos are shabby chic, last two are sixties. Hopefully, this will help you with deciphering your style, as you can see from the photos, they are very different.

Also, I forgot to say that I didn't buy the furniture to fit in with my style, I got it because it was very cheap in the sale lol! It is also unfinished, so I can paint it etc or change the doorknobs to make it fit in with whatever style :) x

Hi rosieb, Paint out your furniture white. More versatile in white. Choose your bedding with a bold swash of colour in it - then pick a paint colour from that bedding and paint only one wall (headboard wall) in a bright colour to match your bedding - keep your accessories to a minimum, bigger is better - less is more.

As suggested, I like the idea of painting it a glossy white or staining it a dark colour (poss. glossing over that too?)

Yes you can have a glamorous bedroom with the layout I provided. Definitely paint your bedroom set high gloss white. Get the gloss finish in the paint, it is easier and less steps to paint. Buy some new hardware to replace the boring wood ones. Replace the little vanity stool/table and get a mirrored vanity pouf or something with more bling. Add thoughtful accessories, cool lamp, bedding as in your inspiration photos. Step at a time, be thoughtful about your choices - you'll get the look you want. Good Luck

Another update - I hadn't really done the room plans correctly, so here are some versions after I've measured the furniture, window and door! Does this change anything?

Rosieb, Second floor plan is better - you've got the big wardrobe where you can't see it when you first come in the door. See, you don't need a night stand... you already have one! Yes, I mean change out the knobs and paint your furniture!

No - not at all! I'd paint my walls a soft, soft gray undertone white like Benjamin Moore Pure White OC-64. Then go to a crisper white for your furniture - so you get a tone on tone affect with your whites - very subtle. Your carpet is a gold or caramel colour which is grounding - be sure to add some more of that colour in art or driftwood lamp to bring that natural brown/gray tone up higher into the room.

Until then I was going to make my bedroom look less sparse for the winter!

Hi rosieb, hard for me to find a fixture when your in the UK?
I'd look at your local flea markets, you could find a pretty little chandelier at a second hand store, or, I'd go to your local hardware and lighting store (here I would go to Rona or Home Depot) to find a fixture within your budget. 20 pounds is pretty low, you are going to spend about $100 Cdn if you lucky, you could get that down to $70 Cdn. The fixtures below are from a company called TransGlobe Lighting and DVI Lighting.

Regarding your drapery - choose that colour after you have chosen your bedding duvet - then pull a colour out of your bedding. Not a big fan of the burgandy colour - unless it goes with your duvet...

If I didn't choose curtains, what else could I put there? Curtains are so soft, glamorous & romantic. Blinds seem to be a bit boring and un-luxurious. I love interior shutters as well, but they cost a bomb!

I was also thinking I could maybe add a canopy for my bed? Perhaps via a thin wire attached to my ceiling, if that makes sense? And only put the curtain/canopy along the bottom and right side of my bed... Then I could draw the canopy across at night to separate the sleeping space but I could leave the curtains/canopy open to let sunlight in via the windows. Would that look ok (esp. as the bed is against a window?)

Any thoughts of what to use for my window?

rosieb, hate to burst your bubble, but you need a larger room to have a canopy. The only think you could do is create a header canopy - as it could be hung from the headboard wall, centred over the bed.

The grey bit is where the canopy/curtain would go (the first when the canopy is drawn and the second where it's open)

And the canopy would look like that photo below, except i'll only be using two sides of the canopy as my bed will be up against the window

rosieb the room above is probably at least two times the size of yours, and the ceiling heights are at about 10 to 12 feet! Your room would not look like your dream photo and you'd be disappointed, sorry. For drapes, you need obviously privacy, so I'd do a woven textural roller blind, you can pick up at any hardware store, then layered over top of that, your sheers that will blow into your room when the windows are open...should be soft and pretty enough while still being functional.

Yes I suppose the room is quite (okay, a LOT!) bigger than my bedroom, but I may go for it anyway :)

For some reason, I'm not as keen on the canopy style that you hang from the centre of the bed - perhaps because, as you pointed out, my ceilings aren't very high at all! I will still be using sheer white curtains for the canopy

I'm wondering whether to leave out the curtains completely - I'm worried I'll sit on my while on my bed and manage to pull them down somehow lol!

Would a blind on it's own look ok?

Try the blind on the window by itself, you can always add drapery panels later...good luck.
