What colour sofa/ furniture for this room?

We are moving into rented accommodation and I would love helping decorating this living room. The walls are cream and the carpet is sage green. Any ideas on what colour sofa and furniture to buy? Not sure what colour palette to use.

I would use natural linen, with a floral print on natural linen with pink and green in it. Then a toning sage green sofa and dark pink velvet cushions.

I would buy a lovely mid blue sofa and add some warm colours in the curtains and artwork, such as shades of orange.

We’d definitely recommend plains, patterns come in and out of fashion, whereas colour is timeless. Choosing a plains with a great texture also adds some sophistication. I’d go for oranges and yellows, they’ll really compliment the teal. Hi Adina, Looks great so far. You're right - it needs a couple of extra pieces, but it's nearly there. It's going to be a lovely room to relax in! I think some more geometric, angular styles would work well for the coffee table. And you could mix it up with some softer, curved details - like the Bica coffee table from WEWOOD, which has an inbuilt tray that can be removed and used to bring coffees over to the seating area. I'd also recommend adding some plants to your room - the contrast between man made and organic structures is beautiful. What colour/style of living room furniture would suit my living room?

Going for a white sofa would help create a light and airy living room. The white sofa would match the airy elements you already have in the room: the light pastel wallpaper and blue chimney heart, the white skirting, the light coloured wooden flooring. The black of the fireplace hearth can be tied together with details like black legs for the white sofa, black legs (maybe hair pin legs) for a white coffee table or for a cabinet (cabinets with legs look very smart: https://www.buzzfeed.com/alisoncaporimo/legs-for-days). Black cross legged lounge chair & ottoman in a navy blue would match the navy curtains. See through furniture helps for an uncluttered feel: transparent chairs, glass table, thin furniture legs, x leg ottomans. The window coverings also have to be in light materials. My alcoves are uneven but I’ve never considered it a problem, so try not to worry. 😊 I personally would choose the expensive items first such as your seating and furniture then decorate around them with wall colour, rug, cushions etc. Wall colour can easily be changed but a sofa that doesn’t quite “go” can be a bit of a trial. As your room is north facing I think a softer colour on the walls would be nice. Either a sage green like Mizzle or a dusky pink like Calamine, both by Farrow & Ball. If you want to stay with the teal, Oval Room Blue is a softer version and not too dark. Below is Mizzle, Calamine and Oval Room Blue.

Hi,

I think something neutral would work really well here. Either a white or Ivory, or even a very Light Grey colour sofa would be great. You could then add colour with cushions and art work. The Carpet adds a lot of colour to this room already, and you don't want too many different colours clashing with each other.

I would suggest to go with neutral tones and to make sure that the furniture contrasts with the floor.

Humm, I had a similar colour carpet in an old rented flat years ago. It was a hard one to modernise up really but it was just a bedroom and I ended up using raspberry pink and creams which really lifted it. Also a rug over the carpet in the sofa area could draw your eyes to that and the carpet can just act as a background colour.

It depends on your tastes really ie as mentioned, a country floral style would work well with the room itself. But, if you have more contemporary taste or prefer brighter colours then you could even go for a vibrant palate on a more tropical floral theme. Introduce neutral charcoal sofa with tropical cushions in deep greens with the same raspberry pinks etc and use lots of leafy plants in the room and artwork.
