Wardrobe doors look dated!
My fitted wardrobes are about 30/35 years old, still in excellent condition, but looking extremely dated. What can I do to update them, please? I don't want to have the whole run of wardrobes ripped out and replaced, as too expensive and disruptive, but want to know how I can make them look more modern. Ideas, please?

Comments (4)Hello. Congratulations on buying your apartment. You should think very carefully about what you do to your studio, since it is the space where you will live, breath and sleep. Before you make any specific decisions, put together a mood board so you can focus on the complete look. . Look at the colour and texture of the things you aren't going to change, like the sofa and, I guess, the floor? Then gather images of the things you want to change, and play around with colour, taking inspiration from your moodboard. Comments (3)Perhaps it's because the walls are white that the wardrobe doors looked more "off white." Two choices, either paint the walls or get the doors re-done. A local carpenter/joiner company should be able to do this if they have an edge banding machine. It's a simple case of cutting down MFC and edging it on the machine. Comments (12)Yes I did look at these as would have gone for something like that for sure if I could only find a contemporary version that wasn’t frosted glass - if anyone has seen any please do shout! emily, a carpenter friend of ours suggested Louvre doors - it maybe an option. I think I’m so hung up on the nice grey glossy sliding wardrobe doors I wanted that anything else isn’t matching up! Comments (13)You could ask a timber merchants to cut sheet material to the size of the door - perhaps birch ply which could be stained, varnished or painted. Alternatively, a company with the ability to cut and edge band a finished panel (e.g. Egger) - Cutlist are one company. This option gives you many options. 4 years agoFunnily enough I’ve been battling with our last bedroom on wardrobes v size of room, my wife also has just dropped the line, id like a vanity area! It’s a smallish room so I’m going custom depth on the wardrobes (around 53cm inside) and a vanity area to the lhs
i did think of something contemporary above the bed and to the sides but in the end it still looked a but dated

No doubt yours are a premium brand and these are well priced but great minds clearly think alike

4 years agoThanks everyone for your comments, much appreciated. I do not know what the wardrobes are made of, but they're certainly not wood. There is hardly any gap between the bed and the sides of the wardrobe. The bedroom is quite small, so I can't really move the bed to another part of the room. I think I shall try either painting the doors (maybe such a special paint exists?!) and putting on new handles, or having the actual doors and handles replaced. Yes, they do look very very dated, but I like the fact that lots of stuff can be stored inside (even in the top cupboards, which add to the old fashioned look of the wardrobes). Thanks again.
