Where do I go from here

Hello everyone. We have made a start on the living room with the main focal point being the TV (don't really want to wall mount it). Main questions are:

what do do with the TV wall - it does not look right. Ideas on how to make this connect better? Unsure on picture(s) above the TV to tie things together or to lose the right side shelves?
The corner between the two sofas should be a round table with a big lamp then a tall indoor tree behind?
Maybe floating shelf above the sofa oppose the tv?

It is so difficult to get things looking right. Thanks in advance for your input :-)

Looking good.

I don’t see anything wrong with the wall where the TV is.

Add artwork to the wall opposite the window above the sofa and place the palm tree (now in front of the floor lamp) in the corner between the two sofas.

Well, it might look better if you place the shelving units both at the same distance from the TV. That'll give you symmetry and, even though I think symmetry is often overrated, it will give a more balanced feel. I would put a lamp in the corner of the sofas. Maybe the floor lamp or a table with a lamp. I would also put the two floor plants together, I think. Probably near the chair and window.

If you put the floor lamp in the corner between the sofas, you could place a lamp on the shelves perhaps?

Thanks for your help and advice- all really useful and helping me sort the confusion of what I need and want and what is and isn't possible. The skinny space is the kitchen now. It's not ideal as of course is very small and narrow so can't house much. But I like that it's just off the reception room and. It quite in it! The kitchen houses the boiler currently and all pipe work there for oven and sink etc so I know this can be the kitchen but just worried the space is too small. My original plan was to keep the kitchen where it is but rehouse boiler and put washing machine in the toilet. The toilet would go in the bathroom but of course now that's not possible I need to put the boiler and washing machine somewhere and if back in the kitchen then I lose so much space. Could such a small space work? I need to rule out this ideal by speaking to a specially that deals with very small spaces. Any recommendations please?

Hi Nieko. Ok so I understand that you’re trying eradicate the weeds first. The whole newspaper, lasagne thingy is a process called mulching or the no dig method. It is one way of trying stop weed growth but in my experience it only provides more opportunities for weeds to grow. Putting something thick like a tarp or large sheets of cardboard over an area would work tho, no light and plants can’t grow, however it would take some months for this to work. Ok if you’re leaving it over the winter tho. Mulching is slightly different in that you’re adding things like newspaper, horse or cow poo (manure), coffee grounds are supposed to be good, straw etc. to improve the quality and texture of the soil for good plant growth. For weed killing, I know it’s back breaking but I pull up what I can by hand then use a weed killer with glysophate (I use the sachets and mix with water in a hand pump sprayer) let that get to work then it’s easier to get the rest. I wouldn’t use this method near precious plants you want to keep tho, instead use Roundup gel. Scrape up the top layer of soil and put in a compost bin or heap. After that you should be mostly weed free but put down some thick material to block the light and prevent more weeds from growing before you’re ready to do any landscaping work. Hope this helps.

Inchyra Blue is such a lovely shade. I did one wall in my sunny kitchen deep blue (Little Greene’s Woad) and I haven’t regretted it. I would paint your fireplace wall, all of it, to start with in the Inchyra Blue, and then paint the rest if you feel it needs it. I love your shelves. Where they from? I don't think the wall behind the tvTV needs anything really, iI think a big print on the wall behind the sofa would be good. It all looks lovely!

thanks guys for your comments. will certainly go with your advice. the shelves are from the futon company; what's nice is that they can be moved around the room easily

Every time I look at your photos I want to move the lamp in between the two sofas as suggested above. Not sure why but it feels like it uses the space well. Feel free to ignore

Your place is lovely and welcoming. I would suggest putting a large mirror above the sofa facing the garden to reflect back in some light and the lovely garden. Your TV wall looks great (accent wallpaper could be indeed a lovely add on but I wouldn’t hand anything) and I agree with you putting a table between the sofas (round and height of chair arms taking up the full space) with a nice table lamp in the corner would be lovely. People can put their cups and glasses on it. If I might suggest a colour that’s not wood such as red or white it would break up the wood and make everything pop. Great job, really nice 👍

Lovely room, and your shelf display looks calming and interesting.

Unless it will block the door, I would move sofa opposite tv a little to the right (lose the tree trunk table) as it looks a little wedged in on the left. Aldi if ther is room, pull armchair away a tad from shelves.

I know you are not keen on wall mounting but the tv would look better set higher (Not much) above the unit. That wall has everything spaced nicely with wall showing thru the shelves, so to my eye the tv sitting right on the unit looks cramped.

I love the deep forest green colour in the picture above, it brings the whole room together. Have you could put a mirror above the sofa opposite the window and maybe a hanging plant in the corner instead of an indoor tree. I love you taste in furniture :-)
