I think you could save a lot of time and money by just revamping this original fireplace. There is so much you can do nowadays with paint and upcycling. How about painting all the tiles white to give it a fresh clean new look and using stencils to give it an edge?

Then to finish the look off, add a feature mirror above, candle sticks, greenery and other accessorises to the top and dress the floor bedside it with floor lanterns and baskets filled with blankets, Hope this helps :)

Many thanks for responding. Yes I definitely want to light fires in the hearth occasionally. It's made out of polished stone so looks a bit like quartz, if that helps.

At first I thought it may be marble, but Ive not seen a fireplace made out of, what look like, marble tiles? Or terrazzo tiles? You could upcycle it with paint and tiles as already suggested. Here’s some ideas, but I just couldn’t find an image the same as your fireplace exactly, which makes me feel it’s a diy build. It’s dirty cream colour doesn’t help! 😊

Thanks for the suggestions. I am now considering painting with Stonelux fireplace paint. Does anyone have any experience of painting polished stone or using this product? I am quite nervous as I know I will face opposition and so the outcome needs to be great!

By the way, the colour currently is not so much cream but quite pinky; the photo does not show the true colour.

I’ve never painted gloss stone, but I did find a website www.hunker.com which explains how to do so and it looks most helpful.

Painting and re-tiling is probably your best bet! But if you want a real fire and less fuss, bioethanol fires are a great alternative! Happy to answer any questions you may have!
