Stair paint ideas
Comments (7)Thanks for your ideas everyone. Our preference would be to keep the newell as wood as well but due to it having to be filled when we changed its design it has to be painted to cover it. Painted stairs look fab but we have a young family and my older mother and I think carpet will be less slippy even with a proper floor paint. Was thinking of leaving just the rails wood and painting the newell posts white or painting the whole handrail and posts in a mid grey, the carpet we're looking at is darker grey. Or painting the whole posts, handrail and panel in a colour like farrow and ball ammonite which we have in the living room opposite. The stairs are very narrow so not sure of runner would be OK? And if you'd end up walking across the edge of the runner edges on the bottom 2 steps due to the design of the bottom steps past the post. I'd be grateful for as many ideas as possible. Thanks...See MoreLooking for Staircase Ideas?
Comments (14)Indeed there are certainly many situations where the client is not right and one would refuse there requests, but in this situation not having a balustrade is almost no different than having one, the ceiling height is quite low, 2150mm and if you take an average height person, they will close to the bottom before their head is below the level of the first floor where they could fall sideways off the staircase and if you are going to fall head straight down from the top then with or with out a balustrade you will probably hurt yourself rather badly. When one browses through the interior property magazines of central London you will find many interiors that do not comply with building control...See MoreUnder the Stairs Storage! Comments (9)Thanks everyone for your comments. We felt the same that the wall being removed would make a positive difference. So we got it confirmed it wasn't load bearing and removed it yesterday. Already it makes a difference. We were set on have white spindles with a grey stained oak banister however we are now considering glass to help keep the open feel. What's your thoughts? Good old spindles or glass (Not too modern style) For info the carpet on the stairs will be light grey and the hall flooring a darker colour....See More- 6 years ago
