What are your thoughts on Crittall-style windows?
Comments (83)Hi @Jerry Evans thanks for the thoughtful reply - all right on target. We bought the house with the newly installed windows, so the contract was with the previous owners - not us. Would be nice if Crittall would honour their guarantee or even offer any help but they've yet to do the decent thing. They will not toss their installer under the bus for mis-selling them, nor will they obviously go on record saying they're not suitable for a marine/coastal environment. We're happy to be their test lab!. With respect to condensation the thermal break question is a good one - thanks. If there is one it's not visible and seems woefully ineffective. We have trickle ventilation for the house as a whole but it doesn't reach the windows unfortunately. We do have all the usual extractors and we're starting to look at further air circulation/ventilation solutions. Cheers Bill...See MoreWhat practical feature/item do you secretly crave for your house?
Comments (98)Lights which automatically turn on when I enter a room (especially in the kitchen and in the hallway from the bedroom to the bathroom) and lights inside my wardrobes (especially inside the one in the bedroom: I often get up earlier than my hubby, and it may be still dark outside, and I don't want to wake him up while I'm looking for my stockings)....See MoreWhat was the last thing you purchased for your home?

Comments (3)Hi James, if you want to achieve a seamless inside / outside look I would suggest having a look at Millboard. This is a very high quality composite decking that is virtually maintenance free. Their Enhanced grain, Golden or Limed Oak would work well with the floor finish above. I always advise clients to go a shade darker for outdoor finishes compared to interior finishes as outdoor light levels are obviously brighter. The other issue you'll need to consider is levels, with a decking solution you can achieve a near flush level finish with interior flooring as decking can self drain through the narrow gaps between boards and be directed away from the house. It can also avoid any conflict you may have with air bricks or DPM levels as air flow can be maintained below deck level. Millboard have an approved contractors scheme so you should be able to find someone who's experienced in using this material in your area....See MoreOnePlan
