I would try to look at the whole space and consider the floor as a major cost. What type of flooring are you looking at? If you are bothered about trends then I would avoid light grey, contrary to what some may say, I honestly believe it doesn't necessarily go with everything as many light greys look definitively blue in cast and would therefore restrict your choices. Something like a taupe colour (which contains red) is perhaps more versatile than grey.

I’m with you with grey the more I work with it the more difficult it is, as I often paint and a client will say it looks blue or green ish, I often find that grey can actually be colder than white as it’s difficult to bring in other colours with grey where as it’s easy to bring in other colours to warm up a white room. I really like taupe as its light and warm but as you say it has a red tone and when I’ve put it in the space it does look a pinky colour. With regards to the floor I have oak boards else where but they won’t be suitable in the kitchen I have found a Karnden in the same colour but the planks are not the same size so I was thinking of laying it in a herringbone style or it will be tiles in a natural stone, that’s another dilemma.

My sister recently did her kitchen and used Taupe (or mink) units with huge porcelain floor tiles and white quartz tops. It came from DIY kitchens as the cost included a large amount of quartz which made it very cost effective. The paint is Skimming Stone and another similar colour and it all ties in really well. It does have lots of natural light though. So I would say her kitchen is in the red/violet colour hue range, mine is in the green/yellow colour range, and then there are blue/greys etc - all called neutrals, but they are anything but. Best to stick to one group to make things easier.
