Does the bookcase fit in the other fireplace alcove and bar aling the stud wall or vice versa. Put a long sofa sling the right hand wall to watch tv and a snuggle seat in the window. Then add a large rug to tie sofa fireplace and tv area together with a coffee table or ottoman. Perhaps a tall lamp in the corner between sofa and bay window. Colour scheme sounds great!

Is this what you meant? This is kind of what we thought. I wonder if we go for a 2 or even a second 3 seater in the window or two chairs and a side table? Everyone seems to choose a corner when in a sofa so chairs give that but I cant decide. Would two sofas make the room feel closed it given it’s all dark?
Do we try velvet sofas to bring in texture? Do they last well?

We wanted to avoid wires traveling across the room so nit sure we have much flexibility on tv location.

Can you use either the bar or bookcase in another room?

In terms of the sofas you don’t really want the arms to overlap which I believe they would do in your layout. You could keep the sofa opposite the fireplace and have a window seat made (sofa arm rules don’t apply With window seats imo!) or alternatively a chair in the bay and then maybe a small one in front of the bookcase angled towards the sofa.

Try marking out everything to scale in masking tape on the floor before you buy. I’ve got velvet sofas, nearly 7 years old and couldn’t be happier with how they’ve fared ( we also got a dog a couple of years ago who sits on them!). A number of companies use clever velvet which doesn’t stain but if you go for chairs you can mix the textures. By cigar and whiskey is it a gentlemen’s club look? If so, leather is obviously a good option. Are you also after shopping ideas?

And is it this sort of look you’re after? (This is actually hicks blue and it’s quite gentlemen’s club). I must admit I always think of panelling with this look which can be done diy quite cheaply. Is there also an opportunity to add wall lights or not? Do you have a picture of the bar/bookcase and floor?

Yes that is a lot like what we’re after but not up for paneling or wall lights- although I agree they look great.. Thinking of getting floor lights or those cute animal ones (mice or monkeys)- I’d like some quirkiness in it. Our floors are darker and it’s an everyday room so comfort is very important.

I really do like those chairs though..

Maybe whiskey and cigar isn’t quite the right term... I’m thinking the kind room you’d see in a movie when orphaned children go to their long lost uncle... and they go in a dark room with rich textures, oddities from travel, books, just before they go off on some magical adventure...that kind of feeling but with a good flow and clean -like a 5 star hotel version the f that room.

@minnie101 I hadn’t thought about the arms overlapping...wonder if shorter sofas might help ...or would it just look funny. Do you think it would work if the window sofa was shorter (2 seater) so that if centers it didn’t overlap? Maybe then I could put some sort of plant on either side?

I don’t think the room is wide enough, this is probably a tad wider than yours? Sofas tend to be about a metre deep, if not more but some of the mid century modern styles tend to be a bit slimmer

Do mark it out though as I could be wrong. i like this sofa as I’m assuming it sits with the style you want and the arms are slimmer than a traditional chesterfield. If you do want to maximise seating though then choose the slimmest arms possible and something on legs (being Able to see the floor underneath makes the room feel wider). You did mention comfort though so you’d need to try it. If the bar doesn’t fit you could use a small bar cart as a side table with your lamp (and bottles!)

The Tennyson is gorgeous too. I like it when arms are same height as back, snuggle up corner, but some people hate it.

@Carolina the have a friend who I think also bought two from them. She had different stuffing put in them and I think she was happy with them both but one more than the other. I need to check.

I’ve drawn a scale size version of the room and most of the furniture to show the layout with two different sized love seats. Also to see how the bar fits when open and closed. We wouldn’t normally need access to the tall shelf when the bar is open. I’ve called to check what the actual seating area is for the small/snuggles sofas since they don’t say how think the arms are.
Also like the idea of a velvety ottoman storage stool/ coffee table. We have and use throws. Do you think a square or rectangle would be better?
Note each of the darker squares represents a meter.

There’s 30cm difference between the two. If the smuggler fits two then I think that would be best.
Any suggestions for chesterfield style sofas that aren’t so deep?
I prefer less deep sofas as I think back support is better when seated in sofas that aren’t so deep...
I prefer higher arms- it’s like a big hug!

I’m not sure if you’ll like this as the arms aren’t high at the front, however it also comes as a sofa bed and love seat plus you can ask them to make the sofa less deep. The photo is Kate Watson- Smyths living room (mad about the house blog) and have seen a few posts praising them. There’s a good choice of fabric and 10% off atm!

Depending on how many people usually need a seat, I think I'd put a comfy chair in the bay instead of a sofa.

We tend to have couples visit so the extra seating would be good....if we weren’t having the bar then I’d probably go for two chairs...although the idea of us each being able to sprawl out while watching a movie...

How awful would it be if the large sofa came out 10 in front of the arm of the small one? There would be 30cm between them.

The cut outs have curled a bit so I put tracing paper over one... it’s blurry but more accurate.

I wouldn’t think the sofa bed could have a reduced depth. Perhaps the love seat could be smaller. I’d still prefer to have a two seater...

We love sofa.com’s Patrick sofa which comes in a sofa bed but is 110cm deep.

That is lovely too, that’s the trouble with the slightly more traditional chesterfields, they are deep

I don't think the overlap is awful. The loveseat only gives one person a seat, really, so you might want to go for a smaller version that is still large enough to cuddle up in.

This is with the Fingal (also sofa.com) loveseat and armchair. The large rectangular footstool in the previous layouts is the Valentin one (148 cm long). For this layout with the second chair, that's a little too big, so used the medium rectangular (94 long). Hope this helps :-)

Lol, I have the Fingal sofas and chairs in my living room and a Valentin footstool upstairs.

I have a similar shaped room. Some sofas are so big now we struggle to find something that fits. Probably not your colours but we have managed to fit a 3 seater, a snuggler and chair.
