Can the desk go under the window? You're already considering placing the bed against the radiator so I'm assuming you're not too bothered about potential heat loss??

You could then try your bedhead against the wall where your garment rail and desk currently sit. By my calculations (cse grade 2 maths 🤦) you'd have about 70cms at the bottom of the bed to get your desk chair in and out. Not sure whether you'd have room both sides of the bed for bedside cabinets but your garment rail and other chest of drawers could go where you've suggested on your new layout.

Thanks Jules. :) That makes sense! It's a rather small room and it gets warm quite easily but i haven't come to a definite answer and don't even know how the flow of the room would be but managed to take some real photos of the room to show you how it currently looks like.

Problem is it's rented property and side tables come with the place meaning they need to stay as every furniture removal costs around £80 alone without any additional furniture bought.

Plus the tall IKEA dresser was bought less than a year ago so I 'd rather not spent much on furniture if possible.

I know it's a bit a lot to tackle with and ask for, especially since a double bed is needed.

Well ideally no since it will decrease my deposit, but I am at the point of actually seriously considering it.

The only thing you can get rid of is the ottoman then ? Do that if you can. Maybe sell it and put the money towards new wardrobe with lots of storage in.

Has the bed got room underneath ? If so you could also put some storage under there.

Yes....you need to make this room really nice so that you feel good.... Once you've got storage to keep things in, your room will feel twice as big... :)

Have you considered asking your employer about providing a new desk ? Many are making really good provisions for their work at home staff.

Another idea for making homely without hanging stuff on walls is to get a lovely light shade. It will really draw your eyes to it and the room will not look so bare. Not sure what you've got there at the mo ?

Bedside lamps would look lovely too.....(Ikeas lamps arent' too smart though....they seem to just fall to pieces)

At some point I wanted to buy a new desk but then dropped the idea as it kind of worked. What I had in mind to buy was a ladder desk in order to have the storage along with the desk without this being bulky or drilling any holes in the walls.

Bedside lamps is certainly something to consider for sure. If I keep both items at the side of the bed then it's certainly something to consider. I am sure something good will be found.

As for shade, I guess you mean the light of the room right? That would be amazing if i could do it. Unfortunately though I only have spotlights so nothing can be hang to make it more homely.

The bed does have room beneath it and guess what? It is already full with storage! hehehehe

We will play around with the construction of the room during the weekend with my partner and will see what works and what doesn't. I will update you here with new photos of the room if we manage the reconstruction :)

Add a mirror. It will bounce the light around. Use an Ikea mirror door, if it’s cheaper. Stand it against the wall that will reflect the light best. Also, have lamps around the room at different height (desk, bedside), but not ceiling lights.

£80 for furniture removal? That's shocking!
Would you be able to get a couple of small bedside cabinets up in the loft, or wrapped up and stored in a shed, or used as sofa side tables, if they crowd the room too much and prevent you from achieving a better layout.

Looking at the limited space on offer I would have an absolute clear out, get as much as possible out onto the landing, and start moving the main pieces into some of the newly suggested areas that you think might work. You might be surprised that some of the pieces you've already got fit better than expected and save yourself some money, perhaps to spend on mirrors, new bedding etc.

In such a small space I do agree a wardrobe would make the room look much less cluttered. By the time you've paid for a man with a van to pick up and deliver a 2nd hand one, you might have been able to get a new flat pack delivered from argos etc.

We live in a 1 bedroom apartment of 38sqm with my partner and there is no storage whatoever anywhere in the house. I now know for sure what I am looking for in the next house! :)

We will need to take everything out of the room and try few layouts to see if a new layout can be achieved with the existing furniture, otherwise we will need to find other ways.

I hope we will be able to move out of this house in 6 months time so don't know if I want to invest a big amount of money to it.

I really hope we will be able to swing things around and find a better place for the desk, although I don't have high hopes. lol

It is going to be a loooong weekend for sure! hehe
