If you are looking to sell your house and renovate the bathroom before selling I would opt for adding a bath into the room (if its the only one in the house).

Think about the type of buyer your house would attract. If its a family I would opt for a more modern bath with a shower unit/screen or a tap/shower attachment. This is a picture (room not quite finished) which has a Victorian vibe but with a simple bath from Wickes.

Hi Vicky, yes it will be in maybe a year or so once it’s finished. And although I don’t like baths - I have fancied one a couple of times this year so far! Ha ha.

Did you tile that yourself over marine ply instead of getting a bath panel?

I was looking at the L shape bath as it has more showering space but does anyone actually like these??

Yes, tiled over marine ply. This is not my bathroom but a close friends :)

I don't really have an opinion on an L bath - as long as you have the space they can work.

Shower curtains are a real pain compared with a glass screen, especially the ones that have to go round a corner (like with a freestanding claw foot bath). I definitely wouldn’t do that if it’s mainly going to be used for showering.

Except this one is 1700 so you’d need to find somewhere that did the same but 1600.

What’s the room layout? If the bath will go wall to wall then I think a built in bath would look much neater and sort of disappear more and make the room feel more spacious. You don’t have to have a P shape, there are straight baths that have lots of internal space for showering, such as the Bette Ocean - then you can do a tiled side panel which I person prefer to the white plastic panels. Also don’t forget about the difficulties of cleaning behind/under a claw foot - even more annoying if you’re not even using it much!

Yea I though that about shower curtains. My room is 1600 width for the bath space (it’s 1800 but I have the gas meter in that room which can’t be moved so that takes up around 160/180mm of floor space! Pain but super costly to move.

I will look for a straight bath then that is perhaps a little wider for showering.

Everything is just so much work as it’s not been a bathroom before.

I like those Victorian patterned tiles for the floor . But not sure what to do on the bath and up the walls etc. Not keen on subway tiles personally so has to be larger format but what works with that industrial theme and isn’t too expensive, pfff 🙈

This was an old mock up I did a few years ago of the layout. Ignore the decor though - the program is not sophisticated! Lol. It’s 1800 deep minus 200 for the bath space at the foot of the bath ( so we could either do a 200mm ledge or build the wall out and put shelves in - but it would be opposite the shower end so not sure if it would be good design or not for getting shampoos etc as you have to go the opposite end for them??? )

It will have a standard short projection WC - probably a shower screen with black edging like on one of the photos attached and the sink will be semi industrial style ie metal and wood. Might try and make a frame!

Like the idea of tiling the bath front as mentioned but would that work if we got an L shaped bath as well?

I know I want the patterned floor OR wood effect floor and the patterned tiles on the shower wall as a feature. BUT I’m not sure what tiles will work together and the rest of it.

Hi Tani, I had a shower over bath combo for many years and the glass screen was a million times better than a curtain. I just had a rectangular bath and it was plenty wide enough. Looking at your drawing, ensure that you can actually open the screen outwards to give you access for cleaning. Will the loo be in the way? Just check the height of the loo is below the shower screen. Apart from that, it looks great!

Ah that’s good to know as most of the straight baths are less than 600mm wide so I was worried it would feel tiny.

The only other time we have had just a shower bath to use, we have a jacuzzi one with a rain head shower in the centre so I didn’t notice the size so much.

I think some of the screens fold inwards for cleaning but then even in a walk in shower, I would have to climb in and clean it 😂 So I guess we will just have to deal with it. Awkward! Lol.

You can get some screens that fold both ways (look for 180 degree screen) which makes cleaning a lot easier. But guess they may not be the black edged or crittal style ones you like.

We re-did our family bathroom last year and have a shower over the bath with a glass screen. We went for quite a simple square ish design of bath - so it gives plenty of room for showering. My only top tip - go for a simple bath screen with the least amount of fittings / hinges and slidey bits because they’re all a pain to clean!!! Our old (and expensive) screen was a sliding one and we could never get to certain bits of it, and within a year or so it looked dreadful. The new one was much cheaper and is a simple screen that folds both in and out. It also has one long hinge / wall attachment - so it’s really easy to clean. A year in and it still looks like new!

The other thing we did was to have all the shower fittings concealed in the wall - again makes cleaning easier. And we also ditched the taps and went for a bath filler that is controlled by the shower fitting. Again - we chose everything with a view to be easy to clean!!

Yes that definitely is a consideration ie simple so it’s easy to clean.
How does it work filling the bath if you are in it and want to add hot water etc if the controls are on the shower though? Ie won’t they be high up?

Ooh - from what I remember (I don’t do baths and I don’t use that bathroom) - I don’t think the controls are that high - but might need you to stand up a little bit?! I’ll have a look when I go past shortly!!

This isn’t a good photo - but kind of shows the shower end - the bath screen folds both ways and the bath is double ended with the bath filler in the middle. As I say it’s not a good photo - this was taken when it was first done last year before we got colour on the walls. Also taken at night with only the light from the mirror!

Ah I see! I was thinking of having a straight edge bath for the shower so there is no slope - which would mean lying at the other end and therefore more awkward to get to the tap 🙈
