Thanks all for input...been away for a while hence the delay in commenting! I just couldn't live with the pink in the end...it seems to dull out in the photos... Any way I've purchased some new baroque style frames in silver/golds and a couple in flat grey (matching the tiles and grout colouring) and will update that wall colour with something darker and more opulent....not sure on what colour yet. On the bright side my mum loves the concept and colouring so stole it for her picture wall and her style is slot more modern anyway so I think it will look really playful and add a bit of needed colour. Additionally my 6 year loved the pinks so the mirror frame wall idea is moving into her room (her room is already a chic shadow grey with white and accents in pink) - it will be more radial based around a larger central mirror and with a bigger space to play with should work a lot better. Alls well that ends well!

1. My house will become like a greenhouse and get extremely hot in the Summer. Yes, this is a real risk. As part of the Building Regulations package a SAP calculation will need to be completed and a separate sub-calculation that assesses heat gain also completed. If the heat gain calc doesn't pass you may have to introduce shading, use heat reflective solar control glass [usually tinted] or reduce the amount of glass. Regardless of what the calc says I'd recommend using solar control glass as it always gets hotter than you think. Another option to consider, assuming you are installing MVHR [mechanical ventilation with heat recovery], is summer shut off function so the heat exchanger is not used so cooler air introduced. 2. Would lose heat in the winter as glass may not be as efficient as brick. Shouldn't be a problem as new modern windows [possibly triple glazed?] are very energy efficient. Although not as good as walls, roofs etc. they are very good. The whole house average energy consumption is also calculated so if lots of glass other methods are used to compensate such as more insulation elsewhere or better heating / energy sources. 3. Security is compromised. Might be a problem so ensure all glazing, windows and doors are PAS 24 / Secured by Design standard for entire assembly, frames, locks and glass etc. Laminated security glass etc. High performance solar control glass with enhanced security performance = expensive glass etc. The design looks nice and would lend itself nicely to timber frame construction. I would make the colour of the frames the same and check in elevation what it's going to look like. You can mix and match different frame sizes and styles, but need to handle it well to work. Using the same colour can help though. Alternatively making a bold feature of the difference and using strongly different colours or a colour to pick out the one you want to highlight and more neutrals for the others. Basically draw it out in elevation and play around with it until you like it.

Our loft company came up with this design. Despite being aluminium, the frames take up a lot of the nice view. Cost £2250. Suggested making the central panel twice as wide and the two side windows smaller (narrower and less long). Does anyone have any bright ideas as to how to make this feature thin framed aluminium window more appealing?
