New Kitchen Floor - Ideas?

Hi there,
The floor in our kitchen is looking a little tired so we'd like to replace it with something else. Most likely LVT. Do you have any ideas on colour please? Fancy something lighter but wonder if we need a contrast against the units? They have a subtle grey/beige grain in them if that helps?

I think you ned to work out if there are grey or beige, they can't be both. Do they look a bit cool and slightly blue or warmer and slightly red or orange?

They are gloss white in the main, with a light grain effect running through. It's very hard for me to say either way as in some lights the grain looks beige, others light grey. Would it offend to say greige? To be honest, I don't think anyone would even notice if I chose to put a grey or beige floor alongside the units/plinth as it's so subtle but just thought I'd mention it. I'll attach a picture - hopefully that will help.

I also think the budget is tight. You're going to have to decide what you're going to use the dining room for, as although you need the space for a bigger kitchen, it's making the dining room somewhat redundant. I've given you many examples below. However, i believe that opening out the end of the hallway, putting the loo under the stairs, creating light from front to back and easy access to the kitchen, whilst also giving you a view front to back from the lounge is a much better design. You also make the lounge area 50% bigger by snatching back space from the somewhat redundant formal dining room. Opening out the whole house will make it feel and look much larger. The last two pics in the set are what i consider to be the best use of space and most logical layout. My strict advice, as it was to my daughter, when she wanted to do the same, or anyone else for that matter. Don't waste money if it isn't going to be near to perfect, wait, save and then do it!

Looking at your ideabook, you're definitely not after the industrial look with your bricks! This is a more toned down colour scheme which is light and airy and still has warmth to it. Maybe you could add pale grey tiles or splashbacks similar to the worktops in this kitchen. Are you adding flooring just to the kitchen or is this part of a bigger renovation project? Hi Debbie. I would go for a luxury vinyl tile in a wood wood effect such as karndean etc. I'm not sure which way the room faces and light affects colour so much but I might get testers of farrow and ball churlish green and cooking apple green which should work with the cobalt blue (you could just do a feature wall against the table). I'd look at an ikat blind combining both colours (have only had a quick look but something like the 3rd pic). Can the thing next to the toaster move so you can add a potted herb? Perhaps also some colour for canisters? I'd also add a few limes in the fruit bowl. You could also add a jug of flowers on the table, I'd go for earthenware (perhaps in white) to add texture and there are some good faux flowers around as an alternative. Hi Claire, When you’re looking at concept planners or interior designers I would begin by looking at a selection of people. It’s important that you find someone who you get on with (that are on the same page as you from the start), as the entire process goes on for quite some time and you go through a lot with this person. It’s also important to get a few quotes and make sure you get lists of what you get for your money - as almost every pro does things slightly differently. They should all start, as Jonathon mentions above, with an in depth at your requirements and needs for the space as well as the property itself. Having all this information means we can then tailor a layout specifically to you and how you’re going to use the space. I personally begin by offering 3-4 different layout options with pros and cons. This gives you lots of choice and helps you to think about the space and to analyse it more clearly. I hope this helps. I would consider something that is lighter than what you currently have but darker than the units, otherwise it may clash a bit if the colours are not the same. As you say, it's very hard to tell, especially on a screen.

I think you need a wood look floor to give some warmth.
