Hi, Charlie, This looks like an interesting plan -- what are you doing about lighting for the work surfaces? Will you have under-cupboard lighting? I know you say you don't like downlights (recessed spots), however they can be extremely useful (on a separate circuit) to have as additional worktop lighting, to make sure you don't work in the dark! Their unobtrusiveness also allows you to have the style of light fittings elsewhere that you want, which might not be enough light on their own. Regarding the ceiling fittings; I do get that different ceiling heights are a challenge. It all depends on what you want to light, and if the lights as positioned will work for your lifestyle. However, I wouldn't worry too much, and instead make sure that all areas have enough light for their purpose. Depending on the fittings chosen, you could even have one large pendant rather than the two that are shown over the island (between the RSJs); although two smaller fittings would also work, as shown. What will that single, circled fitting light? It generally works best if the light fitting has a specific purpose and is lighting something in particular rather than just a patch of floor. Would it make sense to have it over the island at that point rather than between the island and cabinets? That could also be a track over that part of the island if that is what you like, as long at is is simple enough to work with whatever pendant fittings you choose for the other area. Or it could be a pendant matching the others, even with the different ceiling heights.

Hi Yolanda - I'd change the stools, table and chairs, and swap the pendants for something in coloured glass or (personally) metallic, and change the cabinet handles from steel to brass/gold. Instant lift. Splashback-wise, try distressed mirror (suitably tempered and toughened) as it has loads of personality, bounces light around and is easy to clean. Then play with wall colour. Warm accents will stop the wood door from jarring so much (or paint it, if you can convince your husband). You have a lovely kitchen - will take very little to get it where you want!

@Heather sorry - missed your precious post above your image! Yes we have to get someone to make us a framework and the idea was the lights would come down the side of the extractor (hidden) and be strung through from the top of the frame over the seating area. Because the electrician has put them in a different section of the ceiling then we can’t do that anymore so that’s why we have the issue we have :0( They were honestly just useless! Bah. - Re my spider light. Well the one I have for the dining area is huge! LOL. It has 8 arms - all black and a large round ceiling rose (like 8” or something like that) Not very elegant. I did think about trying to stretch it across to the island BUT it’s on a separate switch so it means I would always have to have the main light and island one on at the same time if it did that :0( Had it over a week or so and it’s nice so not sure I can send it back now (plus it has bulbs in it so worried it might break) - I think I will just have to put something In and see what happens when the frame goes in.
