Planning open plan kitchen/dinner

Planning to knock down 1/2 walls and create an open plan kitchen/dinner with utility room and possibly sitting area. Want to make sure I get the layout right. What do you think of the sketch ?

Thanks for these. Im not sure if we can do the extra corner bit for number five, but I do like the layout, it will depend on cost, also don't need two tv areas, as we have a front lounge in the house anyway. the office was supposed to be a mixed use room, as a playroom with kids storage and also an occasional bedroom, so sofa bed In there. I know many people have hobs and sinks on islands, but I just think i'll end up dumping things on there.. I have four in the family, two adults, two kids, but we have a lot of people round for entertaining and parties, so space is what I'm after, but was also looking for somewhere the kids can go out of the way from adults if need be. As for kitchen, the reason for having large larder is to put not only food/drink spare fridge in there, but also things we don't use all that often in the kitchen, equipment etc.. I like everything clean and hidden away. The office on number 5 would be separate anyway as this concept includes sliding doors, which fold into the wall, so only entrance would be from outside, not sure if I can afford these yet though. Please keep suggestions coming, or alternatives, all welcome as I can't visualise.. thanks

Hi Nessieh, I'm adding it again - without the marketing note at the bottom - which, as far as I've been aware since helping on here back in 2013, is allowed, as it shows the value of the advice offered if you were to be paying for it. So given there are only a few measurements on here - this is a quick sketch of how I might suggest the space be used - obviously I know nothing about you / your family etc - but I'm guessing by your name you are perhaps in Scotland ? Double ( glass if allowed- I don't know how many floors your home has ) doors into kitchen - with small desk and lamp to the side - or additional coat storage if under stairs isn't sufficient. Bank of pantry storage drawers at rear of peninsula - cooking and prep space other side of peninsula - suitable walk/work gap between worktops - then tall units either side of slightly smaller window - that's lined up with new entrance doors - sink under window ... the tall units could either be integrated Fridge and separate freezer at each end - or FF and oven housing - depends on your needs etc. (This is just a rough draft ) The utility I've opening into the boot room to give better crouch space in front of appliances - and I've enlarged the loo to give it its own sink for hygiene ! If fireplace won't be used then a chair could accompany a large sofa and pair of lamp tables. A dining table could be placed near the glazed doors looking out to garden when in use - or pushed to the wall for a better view from sofa when not in use ... Hope this helps !

I meant that you had drawn a run of units that was 20’ long and you could likely get a great kitchen into a smaller space, leaving room for dining. Attaching a dining table to the island is a stylish look and often helps people with insufficient room. Personally though I would prefer the flexibility of a freestanding table that you can extend.

Hi Marco, It’s big enough, depending on what you want to include. As a designer and concept planner we begin with a questionnaire which looks at all the details relating to your space. This includes, how many people you need to sit? A look at how big your kitchen needs to be. The style you are going for? And so on. From here we then create several options of layout for your space, allowing you to see what’s truly possible.. and all in a 3D format so you can see how it actually feels to navigate the space. It maybe worth you doing something like this with a concept planner, so you can get your head around how big the space is and what’s possible with in it. My clients find it invaluable.
