Kitchens Design Dilemma Renovating

hi we have the attached floor plan and trying to see if there is a way to increase the kitchen size. The sunroom at the back is very big and currently used as a playroom. ideally I would like to move the stairs and extend the kitchen to the stairs / sunroom leaving a smaller play room.. any ideas if this would be possible & if it is very expensive to move a stairs.

Hiya,

Your house is screaming for a reconfiguration. Is it detached? You could possibly extend behind utility without touching much of the interior.

Another option would be to make the stairs straight (instead of a turn and move them forward towards the entrance. Adding a porch to the entrance would also help as you could move the toilet there. Inevitably changing the stairs layout would affect the rooms upstairs.

Hi, Sometimes constraints are not real. Please reconsider each of your perceived constraints in turn. For example if a window cill is too low to put a kitchen counter in from of it. Then consider actually putting the kitchen unit in that place, but have a step down beyond the counter with a decorative backing board (seen from outside). Likewise reconsider each and every space in your home as the possible location for the kitchen... best wishes

So, has the approach to your property changed at some point? Because I would expect your entrance hall and front door to be at the front and not at the back? Could you turn it around again? If not, maybe move the front door to what is now the kitchen, making the kitchen part entry hall and part utility (dividing wall). Then you could perhaps create one large kitchen/diner/family space from the current utility, office and family room. The current dining room could be an office? Obviously all depending on whether all that would be possible re: load bearing walls and all that.

I really don't think you should ever be faced with "old" and unused space when you have a design for an extension. Any redesign of a home should be holistic and take account of both all the old space and all the new space to create a home that fully works and is integrated.
