5 years agohow high is it? I’ve just picked this photo as was considering the same colour for one of my ceilings but anyway painting it a darker tone plus adding a pendant light will visually reduce the height. If it’s really high try avoiding low furniture too

Comments (5)I was also going to suggest Ikea's Ivar: super flexible, comes in three heights, two widths, two depths and a corner option, with as many or as few shelves as you need. Raw solid pine and you finish it yourself, it's fantastic value. Just thought of you and thought sale news may be helpful. I'd recommend looking at lights with chain suspensions as some lights are not suited to hanging from an angled ceiling. Round shapes are really good on angled ceilings as it doesn't have to line up with anything. I’ll be honest, the island could have taken the stronger shade of old navy, but we are delighted with it. Comments (8)I agree with rinq that the efficiency of the motor is essential. I came across just a few hood manufacturers who can afford to say their extractor will work with any distance from the hob and they are naturally the most expensive. I must mention Gutmann as one of them. And of course, what I've learnt the ceiling extractor doesn't have to absorb all the smell and vapor immediately but if you put it on before starting cooking and leave it on for example 30 min later, it will clean the air well enough....See More

Another option is to choose a mid or deep tone for the walls but only paint up to the picture rail, leaving the rest white. This will make the room much cosier while still taking advantage of the high celings. I did this myself in my North facing living room and was surprised by how effective it was. Example below (not my room!).

5 years agoI agree with kiwikate that you can paint to the picture rail, this is what we did (not the best pic but you get the idea!). If you buy a pendant light that hangs down I think that makes the ceiling seem lower too.
