If you were my client I would agree with Samantha that you really need to keep it to the naturals to keep it as light and airy as possible. The units are fairly dark and the black tiles will also be sucking in light so a green would make it feel quite a bit smaller and darker than it does now. I would paint it all in a nice clean and fresh off white (floors, walls and skirting) and than add your accent green in through accessories which will also make it easy to change if you get board of it or find is too cold in winter months. You could also paper the feature wall, as suggested, in keeping with the scheme. Hang a large mirror to help reflect light and then get some nice warm blinds or window dressing to add texture, warmth and a homely feel. You could also change the small light fitting in the dining room to a large pendent style light to hang over the dining table which will add impact and make the room feel more balanced. You could consider a 3D render/image of the space which do not cost too much but will give you a great look at the room after painting so you can see what is possible and what effect the colour will have on the space. We are planning on putting a utility room in the second garage (which is that new little room at the top of the garage in Floorplan 2) as currently the utility room is in the garage (cold and next to the rakes!). We looked into the breakfast room idea as it was my favourite layout (and more conventional) but were told by the builder to go out to make it flush with kitchen external wall, would cost £20k+ and we'd only get a few feet more width before it starts blocking the view of the garden from the conservatory. It is really a dilemma - I think my biggest problem is how the current floorplan looks on paper - I feel it would probably work well but I don't think I'd even view a house with such a nuts floorplan (except out of curiosity!) :)

I'd keep the sofa where Jonathan has got it. Have the tv wall mounted by the sockets on a swing arm bracket with a low,slim sideboard underneath (for storage). Some of the mid century modern ones are low so may be worth a look. Opposite the sofa I'd have a console with upholstered stools/cubes underneath and a chair next to it angled towards the sofa. Hang the largest mirror you can over the console to make the room feel wider. I'd also go for a built in banquette seat with storage underneath for toys etc. I don't think you can fit a 5ft table, certainly not with a high chair unless you have one that clips on so would go for a 4ft one (we often have 6 for breakfast around ours, cosy but fine!). A pedestal table would be good hence the tulip one as Jen also pictured! I'd go for 3 dining chairs. Keep one by the console with a throw, cushion etc and push the table up to include it at the end for guests when needed. Use a rug to zone the living space so the front legs of the sofa and chair sit on it. You should also have room for a small side table next to the sofa (I make the room a bit longer than Jonathan unless I've misunderstood the dimensions?) Try cutting out paper templates of everything to size and walking round the room before you buy to get a feel of how the space will work

I think that if you aren't having a utility room, then the focus has to be on the layout of the kitchen, storage and appliance position. It's not easy and i've really struggled with this one. I'm not a professional, but have been doing this for donkey's years with our own portfolio. I like the layout of the 1st Kitchen that Mallett posted, and think that would give a nice view from the snug. However, it doesn't give you that seating area that you wanted. I shortened the kitchen down to it's bare bones, but added a utility and storage area over by the entrance on the right. The position of the washing machine and tumble dryer may be a bit of a logistical nightmare, but I think for them to separate and out of the way of the main kitchen area with more storage to boot is worth exploring.
